Pain in left hip, buttocks and down leg to knee 8 years following a THR done posteriorly.

After stepping off the train onto the platform three weeks ago I am experiencing pain in my left hip, which was replaced 8 years ago. Does this mean my hip is already starting to fail? Or could this be tendonitis, a pinched nerve, or possible an extension of a UTI infection? No pain when I first wake up, but the pain increases over the day with activities such as walking, getting up and down from a chair, etc.

Hi,
It could be something minor like a pulled muscle. Large muscles usually take a while to get back to normal. Many times patients are referred for physio to help the process along. I recommend seeing your doctor. They can run various tests to find out what's wrong. I doubt that it has anything to do with a UTI though.
Best wishes!

warm welcome to the hippies forum -
I agree with Richard - make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon and have your hip(s) checked -
it could be a pulled muscle - especially if this pain started at the same time you stepped of the train - better safe than sorry -
please come back and keep us posted ...

Hi Sal,
I had my TRHR on 12/31/2015 and about a month ago I started having achy pain in my right hip and down my leg to my knee which was sometimes giving way when I walked. This happened after doing video workouts for over a week so I stopped doing them and started rubbing menthol based essential oil, deep blue..doterra, in coconut oil into the area and drinking more water and taking muscle and joint supplements with chondroitan and glucosamine. Also, started doing IT band and hip stretches I found online. This has helped quite a bit. You likely jolted those muscles and pulled something and your IT band was probably already tight. Had you been doing any exercises or having pain before that?
Keep us posted!

Thank you all for your suggestions. Unfortunately I only work part-time and cannot afford even Obama Care. I just wanted to check here to see what you guys thought. I do have Bursitis, but this doesn't feel like that. The problem still exists, but I will try some exercises to help. I have also scheduled a massage with a PT. I want to avoid the costly doctor visit/x-rays at this point in time.

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation however IMO since nothing appears to have improved since your previous post I really do think that an x ray is the only way you are going to be able to find the right solution unfortunately.
What would the cost be for this?
Best wishes. Richard

I am so sorry to hear that --- that is a bad situation you are in ...
hopefully, by now, the pain is less - I am assuming that you are not eligible for medicare (yet) - Where do you live? I was once in the same position as you are now and had a choice to either go to a Free clinic or County Hospital -
Depends on the pain you are in and how worried you are -
please stay in touch and let us know how you are getting on,okay?

No, I am not eligible for Medicare yet, not for another two years. I'm not sure there are free clinics available to me, due to the Obama Care. As I understand it, I am not eligible. I think I'll wait for my massage with the PT, see what he/she thinks and go from there. Yes, I am worried about it and I'll do whatever I have to do. I start out okay in the morning and find myself limping AGAIN by the evening and definitely in more pain. It's having no health insurance that is my biggest stumbling block, along with virtually no extra funds.
Thanks for your response and concern.

An x-ray at minimum is at least $250, not including the doctor visits before and after with a specialist! So the cost is daunting. I'm trying to be positive about this and hoping for the best. I will see the PT for a massage on the 15th and will base my ongoing care decision after that visit.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Crossing my fingers I'm not once again in big trouble physically.

I understand, Sal ... as said before, I have been there -
Let's hope for the best and that you just pulled a muscle when you got off the train ...
Maybe take some OTC pain killers -

Dear Sal
I guess then about 600 USD to get an answer. When one has limited funds this is a lot of money to have to fork out as an extra to life's expenses!
You are right, best to hang on until you see your physio. Do you get the physio for free?
Cheers Richard

RichardKen: Luckily yes, the physio is free; I won an hour's worth. Last night I reached out to a friend who is a wonderful massage therapist. She recommended using a soggy ball and lay on it, making sure my back is not twisted, for about 15 minutes. She also said to sit on it too. I am going to give this a try, thinking that it is my IT band that is the problem.
Thank you for your concern.
All the best,
Sal

Renee: Thank you for your concern and blessing. I reached out to a friend last night that is a wonderful massage therapist. She suggested using a soggy ball to lay on it and sit on it (in the buttocks area) for 15 minutes at a time. I will get a ball, hopefully today, nda give it a try. I believe from my research and discussions here that the problem is my IT band.
I'm crossing my fingers that with her instructions and massage (including use of my theracane) that I will be able to resolve this myself. Crossing my fingers!
All my best,
Sal
