Pain in lower stomach even when drinking!?!

So to give a bit of context, at the beginning of this year i was put onto 20mg of citalopram for anxiety. ever since then my stomach has never been right. i got taken off them and my stomach is still abnormal and always getting worse. essentially. it hurts every day, it's always solid and i can never get it to go away. i have been on movicol, fybogel, lactulose, dulcolax and that's just naming a few. i will be more specific of my symptoms. i am constantly bloated no matter if i eat, drink, do nothing, run around, it makes no difference. my lower stomach hurts when i drink even a simple thing like water and i get such crippling pain i can barely move. i have constipation really badly and i have been taking a lot of medications to stop it, none of them doing the trick. it's got to the point i don't eat until dinner time because i know how much pain it causes me and i cannot function with the pains so i have to leave it until i know i am doing nothing. the doctors and specialists have tried to help but everything they've done has failed. another thing i find is it is all in my intestines and that's what they've told me yet it makes no sense as it hurts as soon as i eat and it would take 6-8 hours for my food to get there and also it helps when i am sick and that makes no sense as it would already be in my gut? i am going to point out, i am only 18 years old so it's nothing to do with my age. i also haven't had a period in about a year. i really do believe citalopram has done something. has anyone EVER heard of anything like this?

Your symptoms sound very much like what I've been experiencing for the past 4 years now, with no solution yet. Except I'm a male, and 31 now, this started when I was 27. Have you had any tests done? Upper endoscopy, CT scan, etc. this is just to rule out that there's nothing to worry about. Believe me it helps knowing that it's not something serious. If all tests come back negative, then try dietary changes, and Monitor things that trigger the pain. You would have to do it STRICTLY for at least 2 months for your body to adjust a bit. Try not to take prescription meds, I believe that's what messed my gut all up. There are many natural remedies to provide relief. Do some research on functional dyspepsia also. At least for me, that's the conclusion my last GI Dr came to. Also try some good probiotics and try to relax as much as you possibly can. Stress and anxiety reeks havoc on the stomach. Hope you feel better. Good luck

yeah i have had a colonoscopy, ct scans, bloods, etc. i have been tested for intolerances and i have also been put on a strict diet for ibs to test for that. nothing helped. all tests came back negative apart from the colonoscopy that came back with hermorrhoids but these have since been cleared with treatment and were caused from constipation. i can imagine you also feel very similar in that you just don't know where to go next. i will have a look at that thing, thank you!

Has IBS been mentioned?   Change of bowel habits, bloating, stomach pain, food intolerance are IBS symptoms.

      Hi emma09354

I think your problem lies with your hormones..You say you haven't had a period for about a year....problems with your hormones can cause stomach problems such as bloating...go to your doc and have your hormone levels tested...estrogen and progesterone.....obviously they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing...that is bringing about your period each month...best wishes.....

Maybe it is the simple act of swallowing and digesting that is the problem. Another possibility is the additives they put in water these days to purify it.

i have had all my hormones tested, everything normal. periods stopped because of citalopram. it's all to do with citalopram and it seems to have ruined me.

      Hi emma09354

Have you been tested for HPylori?....

IBS symptoms can indicate ovarian cysts as it did in my case. Cysts wwere removed and all is well now. Worth asking if you can be checked for them before you try anything else. Diet won't help cysts and young women are prone to them. rolleyes

i've been checked for cysts and endometriosis and all sorts of problems like that. it's nothing to do with that, as all the results came back fine
