Pain in right cheek of bum

Hi ladies,

I'm 4 weeks post op and I've been really lucky with my hubby, he's been doing everything, cooking, laundry, hoovering etc bless him.

This last week I've been helping with the cooking, I've got a slow cooker so I've been sitting at the kitchen table preparing the meat and veg etc and putting it in the cooker and leaving it all day to cook, this has been a bonus for him to come home from work to a hot cooked meal.

But I'm finding going out to the shops with hubby, I'm only walking in the middle of the aisle he's getting the things off the shelves, but when I get home I've a sharp knife like pain in my cheek of my bum. It seems ok while I'm at home all day, even though I'm walking round the house, going up and down stairs etc, but if I go out for a little break I suffer. Any ideas?

We do go in the supermarket cafe and have a coffee and rest for half hour. .. am I doing too much or should I build up my strength more.

Help!!!

Lyn xx

What kind of surgery did you have? I am 5 1/2 weeks postop for triple prolapse. I still have not been able to go shopping because I can’t walk very far without some type of pain catching me or feeling heaviness.  My husband does all the shopping, cleaning, laundry also. I actually heal slower than others, so I’m not sure I’m typical. However, I have read enough that you may need to rest some more before venturing for too long. How many minutes or hours are you up each day versus resting?   If I am up too long, I have to lay down flat to get the pressure off my bottom.  I actually have no idea how much people are up at 5 1/2 weeks postop typically. I’m in a learning curve also.

Hi Dlee, I've had a sacrospinous fixation, I'm usually a quick healer and I'm also as stubborn as a mule 😂 so I have definately tried to push myself to do more than I should, I'm going to take the ladies advise and rest and not try to be so damn independent and stubborn, trouble is I feel guilty that hubby is coming home from work and starting housework etc (I'm home all day as I'm retired)

If I have a sleep during the daytime I can't sleep at night so I try to avoid that, but I sit as much as possible, and sometimes have to sit on one cheek sideways, but I can't sit for long on hard chairs, like in the kitchen, but can settle on the sofa

      We'll get there xxx

Hi Lyndy.  I had a sacrospinous fixation for prolapse and one of the side effects of that is a pain in the bum! Is this what you had?  And yes it certainly was extremely  painful!  Mine was worse the more I did during the day and after walking.  I did go away and now 11 weeks post op I am back to normal.  Try not to do too much, recovery is a long slow process. If you are at all worried speak to your doctor. Wishing you a good recovery.

Hi San die, it was a sacrospinous fixation that I've had, I've just been trying to think what I'd done yesterday to cause so much discomfort, and after going around the supermarket etc (altho I didn't lift a thing) when I came home I brushed the dogs (I've 3 small dogs and their fur was getting really untidy) to brush them I sat on the floor and brushed away 😉😉 I definitely think that must have brought on this damn painful butt.

I definately didn't realise how slow the recovery process is, but today it's back to paracetamol and daytime TV 😢😢

Thanks a million for your reply, it's comforting to hear that you're back to normal and its only 11 weeks.

      Take care xxx

      Hello Sandie.

I’m only 2 days post op but the pain in my right bum cheek is immediate when I walk. Even to the toilet and back. Did you ask your dr why this happens? Or did you just accept it?

It’s good to know you are now back to normal. Do you exercise?

      Hi Grandmato7.

My bum pain was a known side effect of my op. Something to do with stitching to the ligament. Consultant said it sometimes happened but not always. It was really painful at the time but thankfully eased off quite quickly. I was given suppositories for the pain and they were a godsend! It's just over 12month now since my op and everything is great. I do most things and walk a lot but was told not to lift heavy things ever again! Hope you are not in pain for too long and make a speedy recovery.

Thank you. Wonder why it’s not listed as something that can happen? And what causes it?

Your exactly at the tightening stage of the internal stitches which is sometimes more painful than immediately post-op. But you haven't said exactly what surgery you had?

Hi Robyn, I've had a sacrospinous fixation for a prolapse, I had a hysterectomy about 25 years ago, I thought then that ladies wouldn't have any more problems until this prolapse, but I think that this op is worse than the hysterectomy, unless I've just forgotten about it 😁😁😁

I'm more devastated that I'm having to take paracetamol today as I've been free of painkillers for about 10 days now.

Oh ouch! That bum pain is often mentioned here following that fixation. My bestie had one and her pain she described it as "like having been kicked in the nether regions by a horse"!! Don't be upset about taking panadol. It's great stuff when it's needed. It also has some anti-inflammatory properties so take it 4hrly during waking hours for a couple of days. Keep on top of the pain. Nurofen is brilliant too. In NZ we buy over the counter Nuromol which is paracetamol 500mg with ibuprofen 200mg in each tablet. Take 2 6hrly.

Hi Lyndy, I had same op in May plus posterior repair. My hysterectomy was in 1984 when I was 40. Prolapse can happen years later after this, I didn't know that either. My recovery this time is was and still is sometimes very slow. It's like sciata pain in my case both cheeks! lol rolleyes I also still get the heavy lower abdomen if I stand, walk or try to lift and bend as in shopping, brushing the dog. I do my shopping online now and try to get my dog to sit near my chair to brush him. My armchair reclines, I find this position easier than sitting even now. I still need to rest in the afternoon but not too long. The sacrospinous fixation does take longer to recover from, they hook the top of your vagina up to the spinal ligaments on one or both sides. I believe this is what causes the buttock pain and I have spinal arthritis too which doesn't help matters. Also I'm 74 and I don't think we heal and recover as quickly as we age. My consultant told me it would be about 3-4 months recovery time! I'm now in the 6th month and still not 100% so please take it easy and try to be patient if you want the surgery to work and last. Some people have posted on here saying it's taken a year or more so don't give up hope yet, it will be worth it long term. Best wishes for your full recovery, Pollyanna UK x confused
