Pain in rotary cuff

I'm 12 weeks post op and in severe pain with rotary cuff. Had a torn tendon repaired and a clean out in the cuff. Went to see specialist last week says my shoulder is inflamed( how did that happen) the pain when I lift my arm is horrendous I just hope there's no damage. Waiting for app to have 2 injections hope I be pain free and out of misery can't take much more of this pain. Anybody else experienced the same?

omg. get an MRI before you get the injections!! if you can't lift it... well...I've been down that path...15 weeks into my PT rehab my PT ripped one of my repairs completely off the anchors and ruptured the sutures. I originally dislocated my shoulder and ripped three of the four RC tendons two completely ripped off the humeral head and had to be reattached. PT ripped the supraspinatus repair off its anchors. Infraspinatus repair held. The loud pop during PT was heard throughout the PT clinic. The diminished ROM and pain horrible. At 3:00 a.m. the final piece of the tendon ripped off the anchors. THAT WAS THE WORST PAIN and lasted 40 minutes until the tendon was free and clear. I had no over the shoulder ROM. The MRI confirmed the mess and I had to have the tendon reattached a couple of weeks later. The revision (re-repair) surgery was supposed to last 3 hours. it ended up lasting 5 hours. my surgeon and the surgical team used a "double row of anchors" the second time around. I am 19 weeks out of the revision surgery and have COMPLETE full ROM!! I am pain-free which i attribute to the surgeon and a new PT who was exceptional. I am on a break from PT and working on my own to strengthen. I will check back in with the surgeon and PT shortly. I feel bad for you. GET AN MRI before the injections. Demand one. It's your body. You deserve to know what is going on. GOOD LUCK

I can lift arm but it's painful. Doc said if the sutures had popped I wouldn't be able to lift my arm at all. He thinks it's just inflammation. Been 13 weeks now. Gets you down .

Rotator cuff injuries occur most often in people who repeatedly perform overhead motions in their jobs or sports. Examples include painters, carpenters, and people who play baseball or tennis. The risk of rotator cuff injury also increases with age.

I'm 12 weeks post op today and my bicep and triceps pain is terrible. Doesn't help that someone ran into me while I was stopped at a light. That was a weeks ago. My shoulder felt like whiplash.
I'm taking this week off from PT. I have just about full ROM. Just can't put my arm/hand up my back very far.
Lifting my arm this past week has been very painful. I always have terrible pain the day after PT. Doesn't matter how much ice I use. I can't take ibuprofen or meds like it.
I know I'm very close to being pain free. Had my right shoulder done 11 years ago and I remember thinking they must have done something wrong for it to still hurt so bad after 12 weeks. Then about 2-3 weeks later the pain dropped drastically.
I agree you probably should get an MRI if you can't lift your arm now.
Let us know how you make out.

You hope there's no damage? A torn tendon would have been damage. And "cleaning out the cuff" most likely meant there was fraying and scar tissue from where you ripped the tendon. So there is going to be inflammation no matter what you do. Inflammation is your body's response to internal damage, both the injury and the repair work will cause it. Your body is trying to repair that joint with scar tissue as best it can and reform it while your surgeon laid the scaffolding with whatever repair work he did. I'd agree with others in this thread to confirm you have a solid repair with the ortho before giving you a cortisone shot or whatever. He should also confirm you have smooth, normal motion. Then go through your exercises, I doubt it will be pain free.

I had both my shoulders repaired and what I can tell u is exercise + physio is the best for pain management. Inflammation will subside and anti infammatories should be used for that. However for pain, especially post op and for however long u need pain relief, u need an opiate like oxycodone due to not only soft tissue, muscle, possible nerve pain but bone pain.
My left shoulder faired better than my right shoulder repair due to leaving my supraspinatus tendon ripped off for 6 mths. I have taken oxycodone when desperate since 2006 for chronic pain in the right. But if I continued with exercise things would be better but I'm a lazy cow Things will improve but those cortisone injections do not work for everone, are short lived and made my pain worse.
