Pain in the bum.

I haven't been on here for ages(good sign) although this forum was ny lifeline after the in June 2015. In the last few moths, I have started having a pain in my bum just above the sit bones. This pain is usually when walk-in. Before this I could walk 1.5 miles before unoperated hip started .to pain. Now after a few hundred yards operated hip is tge painful one.. Any suggestion as to what is causing this nearly a year and a half on.

No worries - the system is wonky quite often -esp on smaller screens.

That doesn't sound so good ....

I had my hip at the end of last October and revision (failed) on it in January.

I can 'feel the bones' when I get on a hire bicycle in London ... but as I lost 5 stone (70 pounds) before the operation, so I assumed it is the loss of 'padding' in that area!

I also got some 'tightness' in the upper thigh when on holiday, climbing uneven and high stone stairs in castles and churches.

I think you need to make an appointment with your surgeon, pain all of a sudden doesn't sound right to me.

Hi,I have the same symtoms as you went back to Gp explained when i went for a walk it felt very sore and knotted feeling he surgested more physio (ihave had 3 lots of 6 weeks) no difference.  On painkillers still but try not to take them all the time.

He referred me to consultant had xray nothing but surgests it could be bursitis gave me an injection went  back after 12 weeks it did not make any difference.

Last Friday had MRI  and go back to see him on 4th Nov i so do hope it shows something and can be sorted. At the moment i wish i had not had lthr done.  So fed up with it, i wish you well hope you can get some answers.

    Regards Lorna

Thanks for your reply Lorna. Yes bursitis seems to be their stock answer. When I said at three months review that I couldn't lie on op side I was told bursitis. I'm still glad I had op tho as before op I could hardly walk.xx

    hi attractac ,

so sorry to hear this, darling -

How is your other hip?   I remember you mentioned something about needing to have that one done in the future as well -

Maybe it is time to make an appointment with your surgeon and have a check up and a new xray taken ? ....

Is there a pulling sensation in your groin?

Or maybe just a good massage will get the kinks out ...

Please keep us posted how you are getting on, okay --

lovely to see you back here eventhough that isn't always a good sign ...cry

    big warm hug

This bum pain is new but I read up a bit about it last night and apparently it can happen a while after surgery. I've being trying to massage it myself but not helping. It's bearable do I shouldnt complain but was hoping someone on here had a solution.xxx

Hi Attatrac, I had my op at the same time as you and remember some of your posts. Earlier this year I started getting pain in the operated leg and I have back problems also but didn't connect the two (I posted about this hoping for answers as you have done!). I went back to my surgeon who suspected sciatica. My hip x-ray was clear but an MRI confirmed the problem was starting in my lower back. He recommended swimming and walking and those have cleared it completely. He says I need to learn how to look after my back so he has asked my GP to arrange some back specific physio. If I don't get on top of this it will re-occur as I have chronic back pain unconnected to the hip replacement. Could your pain be sciatica? The nerves are irritated in the lower back but can produce symptoms anywhere in the leg. Good luck with a diagnosis.

Perhaps an X-ray would confirm whether prosthesis has shifted and impinging on a nerve.

No answers for you Attractac - if only it was that simple huh!

I wish things were going more easily for you.

Sending hugs with lots more if needed.
