Pain in the Epigastric area

I've been bloated and have acid reflux. I am taking medication for it which has seemed to help. For the past month I have had a sharp pain in my Epigastric area, top center abdominal area. I've been to the walk in urgent care to get it checked out, doctor pressed around and hit the pain. Told me it is just muscle pain. Today I had coffee for the first time in over a month (I quit for months as a time and sometimes fall off the wagon if it's offered for free) the coffee was quite strong, I forgot to take my acid reflux pill, and the pain was pretty bad. Like I was being stabbed. I might go back in a week if it is still really bothering me. Have any of you have something similar and what you did to relieve it.

I suffer all the time with this ,due to an operation to help me loose weight. I have to take Morphine all the time for my legs, i was born with hip displaysia. I have had 52 op on them and broke my femur last year. I did not take tablets for reflux  for a week and like you i had pain heart burn it wqas horrible. There are many different ones your doctor can help. But these says you seem to loose any dignity at the door. I have been told i need revission surgery on my stomach to convert to a bypass, but i have not eaen a hot meal in 9 years, i live on yogurt ice cream and we just go round in circles, and then you here the word cost. I would go back on the tablets and if nothing changes go back.I hope some on here would help me as i want to give up now.But stay strong. x

Thanks. I do feel heart burn when I don't take the meds but it honestly feels like someone has stabbed me multiple times just under my ribs. I'm going to assume the doctor knew what he was doing feeling around, pressing on my abdominal area to not do any imaging tests. I've had multiple blood tests due to other reasons and all normal.

AS IVE ALREADY SAID IN MANY REPLIES TO PEOPLE THERE ARE VARIOUS THINGS THAT SET OFF EPIGASTRIC PAIN.

JUST HAD EVERY POSSIBLE TEST DONE AND THE ENDOSCOPY WAS SUCH A RELEIF TO GET DONE .ITS NOT KNOWING THAT CAN CAUSE A GREAT DEAL OF VARIOUS TYES OF PAIN AND GETS YOU THINKING IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING ELSE WRONG.

WITH ME ITS STOMACH BENIGN POLYPS WITH INFLAMMATION EVEN ALTHOUGH FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS OR SO IVE BEEN ON 20MGS OF OMEPRAZOLE FOR REFLUX [HYPERACIDITY] JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT PERHAPS ONE DAY IN THE NEAR FUTURE YOU MI REQUIRE ONE AND INDEED IF ANY DOCTOR SUGGESTS ONE TAKE IT AS THERE IS NOTHING TO  THE TEST JUST OUT FOR 3 MINS THE RESULT /MEDICATION AND ADVICE THEN HOME TO ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

I WAS SOMEWHAT HORRIFIED TO HEAR OF PEOPLE TAKING VARIOUS SALTS E.G. ANDREWS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CONSTAPATION THAT LAST LONGER THAN 3-5 DAYS A DOCTOR SHOULD BE CONSULTED.

DRUGS FOR REFLUX ETC DO NOT CAUSE CONSTAPATION AS THEY COME IN COATED CAPSULE HOWEVER WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT AND YOU MIGHT JUST BE PRONE TO IT OR YOUR DIET DOESNT CONTAIN ENOUGH FIBRE .

IF DOCTOR SAYS ITS A MUSCLE CAUSING PROBLEMS GO WITH THE FLOW FOR A WEEK OR SO THEN GO RIGHT BACK.DID IT CROSS YOUR MIND THAT THIS MIGHT BE A SIMPLE STRAIN WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GO TO TOILET?

I NEVER DRINK COFFEE BUT WAS ADVISED NOT TO AS IT APPEARS TO CAUSE ACIDITY.

OMEPRAZOLE AND OTHERS ARE USUALLY PRESCRIBED TO BE TAKEN IN THE MORNING HOWEVER YEARS AGO I REVERSED IT AND TAKE IT AT BED TIME.

TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM IBUPROFEN AND CO-CODAMOL THEY CAN CAUSE ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS.

SEE HOW YOU GO AND GOOD LUCK

Thank you for the reply. My bowels are normal, I eat fibre, fruits, veggies, low on salt as if I eat too much salt my hands swell and hurt. I don't take OTC pain drugs as I prefer the natural route. I don't even drink pop. I try to be fairly healthy as I hate feeling ill.

I have been diagnosed with Gastritis, I have had the pain you mention. Didn't know what it was. Strikes for no reason, I thought. Today I read your post. I've not had coffee for a couple of days, I had some today and bang! The pain was back. Will let you know if anything else does it. I'm glad I'm not on my own with this. I also get pressure pain in this area too, do you? I have posted a few times about it.

Yeah and it's all fairly new. I'm on some antacids for reflux as well. Now I'm having the pain in the stomach and on my right side between my ribs and hip. It's driving me nuts but it's not to the point where I think I should hit emergancy

I've had this for nearly a year. It's debilitating, I have sat too many hours in pain, wishing it would go. I have been juicing for about 6 months, things are more under control. I take ranitidine, not every day now. But when I feel I might need it. I have now enough energy to do exercise. Feel more confidence if my body.

It's called esophagus spasms, they're caused by the effect acid has on the nerves in the esophagus. They can get to the point that it feels like a heart attack or heart papitations
