Pain in the groin and knee

Posted , 6 users are following.

It's 5 weeks since I had my THR. So far my recovery has been smooth however for the past two days I get a sharp pain on my op side knee's which goes down all the way to my ankle , in addition I also feel pain in my groin usually when I am about to get out of bed.

has anyone experience this problem? Any advise will be appreciated.

My recovery was very rapid and I walked two mile without pain after three and half weeks. However, the pains and aches came back and the physio said it was down to overdoing things - QED, if it hurts rest and see how it responds. His advise was spot on and now 14 weeks on, totally pain free

    Good luck

Yes as I am now pain free I do tend to forget that I had a major operation and push myself too hard.

      thank you

Hi - likewise, as I was  working full time after seven days ! The final result though has made it all worthwhile although I still have a long way to go to be as fit as before

    Hi,

the pain you are experiencing is following the path of the Sciatic nerve.  After 5weeks it's not likely to be bruising from the operation, but it sounds as though you are just over extending yourself and irritating the nerve.  The nerve does not like to be stretched and walking will do just that if you do too much. Rest a bit more.

    hope this helps!  Good luck

Yes I do walk a lot plus climb up and down 5 flights of stairs daily.

I will have to take it easy.

Hi , I had 6 week check up on wed . Am having some pain in thigh and knee  . Dr said it is normal . From reading this forum seems to me that lots of people are doing too much too soon . Dr said my restrictions are lifted but if it was his hip he would be very careful for at least 3 months in order to look after it . He actually told me to ignore people who say they are in no pain walking and doing everything within days as they are exceptions . Most of us are in the middle . Been referred to physio as my abductors and adductors are too tight that's what's causing pain in groin and my limp . Good luck
