Pain killers and IBS

Hi I have IBS but also arthritis I can't really take ibuprofen and antibiotics cause IBS flare up as well.  I am now using ibuprofen gel, only helping a bit with the pain and so far so good no side effects.  My GP has also given me naproxin to be taken only if pain is very severe. She has also given me omprazole to protect stomach.  My question is has anyone with IBS any experience of this drug.  My Gp said it is a stronger pain killer but with similar side effects to ibuprofen.  I am frightened to take it as last year I reacted badly to codydramol as well  I can really only take paracetamol.  I have to wait now for referral to hospital.

Hi, I've had arthritis since I was 20 years old now 30. I new that eating too much wheat aggravated it. About 2 years ago I had a bad episode. Pain in all my joints. Even places I hadn't had it before. I realised I must have eaten something that had inflamed my system. Researched net. Found info doctor Childers no arthritis. Briefly doc Childers says nightshade foods cause arthritis. I had eaten jacket potatoes 3 days on trot. (Potatoe is in nightshade family as is tomatoes and peppers ). I stopped all nightshade foods and within two weeks no arthritic pain at all. I baught the book "doctor Childers no arthritis" it's shows that researchers trying to induce arthritis in rhodants. The first thing that happened was they got gastro intestinal problems. 80 school children were severely ill after being fed old potatoes for lunch. Three were in intensive care. If I get tempted and eat nightshade foods pains back next day. Lasts about 3 days. Also stiffness that I was putting down to old age has disappeared. There is too much to info to tell you here. Research nightshade foods. The Childers book has lots of case histories going back 40 years. Hope this helps.

Hello Thank you for your interesting post.  First of all can I say hope you feel 30 not 70.  As you have had arthritis since you were young I am

assuming you have RA or do you have OA as well.  I have know for some time about connection about inflammatory foods, bu thought this only applied to RA.  I will certainly research this subject.  I don't eat a lot of potatoes but being a salad lover I do each tomatoes and peppers most days.  Are there any other common foods in this group?

I have diagnosed OA in both knees, spine and neck and other joints for all I know.  I started with mild pain in my early 40's and am now 66

I was talking to a lady who had been on holiday to America with her father. Whilst there his arthritis flared up real bad. The locals told her they were in a big tomatoe growing region and everyone knows that tomatoes is bad for arthritis. I used to work on a gas terminal and the instrument specialist had a workshop above mine. He had huge windows in his workshop and every year they were full of tomatoe plants. He had to take early retirement due to severe arthritis. Mentally I still feel 30 but my body keeps reminding me that I am 70.

Hello again, I read what you say with some interest.  Last year my right knee was giving me terrible pain going right down leg into foot.  I was due for arthroscopy in Oct and spent the summer in pain.  The surgery was cancelled when the pain suddenly improved.  Now my left knee and leg has the same pain.  My husband since retirement has been growing veg including tomatoes and more recently peppers.

I can't say this is anything to do with it but I will wonder if suddenly the pain improves again in the autumn after growing season is over.  Of course I will always have pain with arthritis but as long as I can get about I will be fine.  When I told the surgeon about the improvement he just said that sometimes time and nature does the job for them I wonder what you think.

Hello there - I can only sa what works for me - I can't say have arthritis (not tested), but I was suffering with a lot of joint pain along with symptoms of IBS. I had not got to the stage of medication as I was looking for something natural really, but I was really stressed.  I know doctirs do their best, but I worry that they turn too quickly to the drug route and when you really really need drug related helpt, your body doesn't respond as well as it should.

I think I have been fortunate as I found something that sorted (maintains rather than has cured) my IBS and taken wih additional ingredients has helped my joints and made me moe mobile again.  I don't want this to sound like an advert, but I found a product that is not available on the high street, but is high quality and from a long-standing global company.  What I take is a small daily 'shot' of an Aloe Vera drink which on it's own has anti-infammatory and anti-viral properties, but my one has additional ingredients to help with my joint problems to save me taking separate stuff or having injections and the like. I am so grateful to have found it - it helps me have a more relaxed approach to what I eat and I feel less stressed and more energised.  I'd be happy to tell you more if you wanted smile   take care.
