So I started about a year ago.. pain in the jaw which would last a day or so and go and come bacj.. saw many dentists and even rhithough my right bottom wisdom tooth never cam out its not crooked and didn't want to remove it.. lately the pain has been so bad that some days I just lay in bed and ice or heat my face and cry.. what is getting me is that its in my jaw, my cheek hurts and is a little swollen, goes into my chin where I will get sharp electrical shocks and the worst are my gums and teeth (again sharp painful electrical shocks)... even the back of my tongue will hurt and it seems to radiate from under my right ear and under the jawline. I have a neurologist apt next month hoping I can get some answers..I just dont know how to function when its bad.. I cant even be the mom I need to be for my two year old son..once in a while pain killers help (which makes me think its a tooth thing they are not catching) btw has anyone tried accupuncture ? Made an apt for wednesday to see iff they can help. . Does this sound like TM? Even with the gum and tooth pain??

Yes, this sounds very much like TN.   I would see a Neurologist as soon as possible and ask them to put you on Gabapentin.  Your GP might also prescribe medication if you can't get into a neurologist soon.  There are other drugs too and they will find one that will take care of the pain.  This will work!

I also meant to say please do not make the mistake of thinking it is a tooth problem and have dental work.  So many people with undiagnosed TN, including me, have made this mistake and made the condition worse.  Please emphasize to your doctor that you are getting electric shock pain. Your other symptoms are very familiar to me. I would insist on TN medication.  Ordinary pain killers do not work.

YES, this does sound like TN. I made the mistake of having 3 molars pulled and the pain remains. The pain is deceptive because it feels like it is the tooth but I have learned it is the nerve in the tooth and gums. A neurologist will help. Just last night I was at a gathering with people and the facial pain started. It is such a major distraction. It is worse at times and then other times it is more bearable. It will improve with some medication from a neuroligist who is familiar wit TN. I wish you the best.

    Christine,

Had exactly that in 2007. Could not get neurologist soon enough. Advised to go to emergency room. Got the medicine.to function right away. Huge relief !
