Pain medication gave me my life back

Hello my name is Jennifer, I am a 51 year old wife and mother of two children. I have a good life.  I don't know if this is the right forum to write this, however, I wasn't sure where else to go.  I have always suffered with IBS C/D.   I have been in pain sometimes for weeks at a time.  Going to the bathroom 8 times a day was normal for me.  Or being so constipated I would pass out on the bathroom floor.  I missed weddings, holidays, parties..vacations were a nightmare because I was out of my environment and it make everything worse.  Six years ago I tore my meniscus in my knee and had surgery.  I also have spinal stenosis, a pinched nerve in my back, and two herniated discs in my neck.  I was given Vicodin for the muscular pain and my knee.  I started to notice my IBS was barley bothering me.  I went to the bathroom maybe two times a day, and was not constipated at all.  I would get horrible abdominal pains and back pains after going to the bathroom because of spasms in my colon.  I was miserable and tried EVERYTHING, including Yoga, physical therapy, tranquilizers, Imodium.  I would take one Vicodin and all the pain stopped and the diarreha stopped, my back pain stopped.  I feel like a normal person.  I go to a pain management doctor who monitors me every month.  I have been taking them steady for the past 3 years.  My life is wonderful.  I do not have to take more, I don't drink, smoke, drink alcohol or take any other medication containing acetaminophen.  I know some people get addicted, but for me it has given my my life back.  Any comments are welcome or info.

    Hi jennifer

allthough opioids are addictive there are some positive sides aswell ... taken properly like yourself has cured a condition that never responded to other meds

what i think has happened in your case is the opioid namely vicodin has stopped the bowel spasms, and this has worked as all opioids slow down the bowel movement and some ( such as codeine ) are actually used as a anti-diarrhea medicine

also the back pain is sorted again due to the way opioids work, allthough meds such as pregablin and gabapentin may give you more releif especially for the pinched nerves

but hey,you have your life back and thats the goal of any doctor ..just make sure you stick with the same doctors who understand your situation

i wish you all the best
