Pain on one side only?

So I tapered WAY too fast (from 15 mg to 2.5 mg in one month) . The pain came back on right side butt/hip only so I increased to 3 mg, then 5 mg, then 7.5 mg and finally now at 10 mg within the next month. Have now been on 10 mg for 13 days. The pain is still there but only one side. So today my Dr. said that she thinks the pain is actually coming from my sciatic nerve issue so gave me a shot of pain med to see if it takes the pain away. Is only effective for 24 hours. I am to call her tomorrow to let her know if it took the pain away. If it does, then apparently the pain is from the back issue. If not, it is PMR pain. My question is, is it common for the pain to be only on one side? This is why she believes it is NOT PMR pain. But It actually started out that way, then spread to both shoulders, arms.

Unfortunately I am dealing with 2 health issues at the same time and they both affect the same area of my body. It's been 2 hours since the pain shot and I still have the same deep, aching pain in my right butt. Almost what I would imagine bone cancer pain to feel like? Guess I will know more tomorrow when my 24 hours is up.

If it is sciatica I have not found anything that helps the pain apart from physio.

If it's only down one side I can see why she thinks it's not PMR, which is bilateral. Always.

If it is on one side only it could possibly be coming from the piriformis - which sits   on the buttocks - and sometimes, when it is contracted, it can compress the sciatic nerve  thus mimicking sciatica.   So, as has been said by Ptolemy, , a Physiotherapist can help with releasing the nerve impingement and future prevention by prescibing simple exercises to release the pirimformis.  A Medical Massage Therapist can also release the nerve  impingement.

I'm not sure where bone cancer came in to this but it could be your piriformis muscle which is located deep in your butt cheek. Usually a trigger point injections in that area will do the trick. And don't forget it is possible to have two problems at the same time. Maybe you do have PMR which is being controlled by the pred and a muscular problem too.

Thank you! I will mention that to my Dr on Monday. Two of you have now suggested the possibility of piriformis. The pain injection yesterday did nothing for me, but perhaps as you said, it needs to be a trigger point injection and perhaps some massage and physiotherapy.

To find a doctor able to consider separatly your both

    health condition is a must.

    Then to put things together.

The right professional, time and patience will put you on the road of the expected outcome.
