Pain on the flesh part of the left big toe

First off, I would like to apologize if the post misplaced in a group.

Attached is the current photo of my left big toe. The left part of the nail has some blackening happening, I don't know if that's dirt or something else.

The upper left corner of the toe is where the pain is. The pain feels sharp but is only felt when that specific part is disturbed e.g. by touching or bumping.

I can't see the picture I am afraid, but I would give your toe a good was to make sure all the dirt (if it is dirt) has gone, I use cocktail sticks to get the hard to reach pieces of fluff when I am in the bath. Next, have a good look at your nail, is the side of it starting to grow into the skin? An ingrown toenail can be very painful and get infected. If you have caught it early enough you may be able to manually (carefully) snip down the side of your nail and pull out the bit that is digging in. However if it is in too deep or too far down to cut safely you may need a trip to the doctors to have it sorted. Best do it sooner rather than later as left they can get quite nasty.

When you cut your nails do you cut them straight across or do you curve them in the edges? It is usually best to cut them straight.

My chiropodist said that 90% of toenail problems were due to bad cutting which I found amazing. I had terrible pain from an ingrowing toenail for years. I am so glad I went to the chiropodist  she sorted it out in about a second and I could not believe how wonderful it was.

It does sound like an ingrowing toenail. I just go to a chiropodist, but they do charge but mine is really good.

Update: I have managed to remove the ingrown nail. It's not painful anymore.

I was a bit painful when I tried to remove so I had to be really careful not to touch the sides.

I was wondering if there was a way that it could occur again and how I can prevent it.

    Here's the photo:

I used to remove mine which was a bit painful. It was only recently I decided to get someone else to do it for me. You may be lucky and it does not come back, mine did!

      Update:

Nope, it actually wasn't totally removed T_T

So I went to the clinic earlier today and he prescribed antibiotics, and painkillers if I needed them. He told me to go back in week. If there's still swelling, he said that I might need local anesthesia to cut off the ingrown nail.

Lastly, he told me to only cut on the sides and not cut too deep. I guess lessoned learned for me.

I hope it gets sorted out, it really can be quite painful. Also at nights the bedclothes touching it makes it hurt. As a last resort try a chiropodist if all else fails.
