Pain pain go away

I had hemorrhoidectomy 6 days ago, also 7 years ago.  Worst surgery ever so very upset I had to have it again but I didn’t have a choice it came back and was inflamed and I was miserable for close to a month.

Anyway, I was doing good much better than last time until Monday when I had a BM, the pain was so bad.  I’ve had 2 more since and the pain is so bad, I just took last pain meds, called the doctors and  nurse told me to just take Motrin and Tylenol.  I was crying today the pain was so bad.

How much time off Work has everyone been taking?   I sit all day(I did just order a stand up desk).  Last time I took 2 weeks but then part-time.  I have a different job now and part time isn’t really an option.

This pain is just so unbearable, at least on pain I was able to function a little now all I can do is just lay on my side and Ice and do labor breathing.  I can’t remember how long the pain lasted before.

Hi, sorry you are going through this for second time. I know the pain is just excruciating. The doc in hospital (I’m in UK) signed me off for two weeks, but the consultant said mine was bad case and changed it to a month. I needed it! But...after two weeks it got better quite quickly every day. I went back to work last week and coped but very very tired. Now 6 weeks on. Bm’s still uncomfortable but no lingering pain like before that could last hours. Still not quite right, but consultant said two months recovery. Hang in there, I promise it will get better soon. Lots of sitz baths or baths, they were my only brief relief. X

Had my operation on Monday came home Tuesday. Had a small bm last night and this morning, but still feel it is not empty, is this normal? Been for a ten minute walk on the flat which was very slow like a woman of 80 years. Not is pain just discomfort, when will it improve ?? Did you have to go back to the hospital for them to check everything is okay , when was this ?? Where was your operation done ?

Mary, my op was done in kent. I had grade 3 piles, prolapsed. You are very early days, and depending what you have had done I would say give yourself a good two weeks. I’m now 6 weeks on, and yes, the annoying feeling that you are not getting rid of all in one bm is normal. Still takes me three times going. My problem now is I keep going from diarreah to constipation (which is awful) and has made my botty really sore. Sounds like you are doing well if you are having discomfort rather than pain. Hope you feel better soon. It’s a horrible recovery.

Hi did you end up with any bruising after the operation? Not much pain just discomfort. Still taking all the medicine. Now when I think back to my first doctors appointment, first one she just gave me cream. Never told me to go back if it did not get better. Second appointment gave me cream and supportive. The third appointment gave me the same and asked me if I would like a hospital appointment but would be 8-12 weeks. Each appointment was different doctors. I was scared to go the first time as I do not like doctors. None of them told me to come back if it did not get better. My stomach feels swollen even though I have a lot of bowel movements is this normal ? I have also lost weight which I do not mind.

Yes, lots of bruising, it was black down there. Also had difficulty having a wee, think my bladder was bruised also. It all sounds normal, although horrible. I’m waiting on a follow up appt. they said for 8 weeks after op.

Nice to know you had bruising as well. I now have a red rash as I have been wearing sanitary towels since coming out of hospital during the day and night and now have a rash. Have you had this and what cream can I use ? Thanks again.

The red rash could be because they shave you completely and it irritates growing back, I had it too. I found meticam, a barrier cream for babies, was brilliant and much better than sudocream. Put it on after every bm. Hope this helps. X

They did not shave me I think it cause I am wearing pad cause of leakage.

I was given lactulose and fybogel for stool softener and the amount they gave me was for two weeks. After a week I have only been taking lactulose. It is about to run out. What I need to know should I get a prescription from my doctor for more ? Or should I be stop taking this ? What have you done ? Any advise please, thanks.

Well I Stopped the lactulose when it gave my bad diarrhoea, but then got constipated, and seem always to be or other. I do also have IBS though and I think all the meds’ I was taking upset my system. I now take a stool softener capsule 2x day which seems to work. I would say it depends on your bm’s. If they are just right on what you are taking, then I would get some more, maybe very slowly decrease so your body gradually gets used to being without. I certainly feel,we are looking maybe 6 months before everything resolves itself completely, but that is just my thoughts. Try a nappy barrier cream, especially if wearing pads, that really helped me. Good luck Mary. X
