Hi there everyone it is 6 days since I had my right hip replaced , I have been home since Monday afternoon . I have been doing ok , also I've been walking in he living with my crutches and the excersises .the only real problem is I can't get comfy when sat or lay done . I was thinking maybe I need some pain killers to help me relax a bit . The only tablets I got sent home with were parcetamol a blood thinner tablet , anti sickness one , a stomach protection one and a constipation one . Will the doctor give me anything stronger ? I'm thinking something morphine based .

    Hi scott

Oh god yes l am 7 weeks post op and still rely heavily on my painkillers l am on tramadol and co-codamol plus l have a morphine tablet to take if paun gets bad. I saw my surgeon on wednesday and he said l will still suffer a lot of pain. I have had my 2 hips replaced in last 4 months. And my surgeons words were don't be a hero and suffer pain you need painkillers to help as it takes a while to heal. He said remember l have cut right through your muscle and into your bone it can take up to 9 months for the body to properly get over it.

Tbh l could not cope without my pain meds l could not sleep or do half the things l can. If l was you l would get on phone to doctor and get tramadol or co-codamol. You will feel a hell of a lot better no point in

Sorry pressed send to quick. I can't beleive the hospital never discharged you with painkillers you are only 7 days from op and still should be on strong painkillers. I was discharged with the 3 kinds and still take them all at 7 weeks.

Get on painkillers thats my advice its to early not to be on any.

If they sent you home with the laxative this is because the painkillers you should be taking make you constipated. But if you are not taking any then there is no point. The morphine based one l am on is oxycodon but they will not give it out easy as l got them because they were on my discharge form l got from hospital and so was tramadol and co-codamol. I think your best bet is tramadol if you expain to them you have had a thr and been discharged with no painkilllers which is crazy l have bo idea why they would discharge you without painkillers l have never heard of this happening.

Hi Scott I think you should of been sent home with some stronger pain killers especially for the night time. I was given co_ dydramol which is a mixture of codeine and paracetamol. I took 8 a day for the 1st 2 weeks. You could telephone your GP to see if they could prescribe you something stronger.

I couldn't get comfy either sitting or laying and to be honest this hasn't improved on a night time much as I cannot sleep on my back as I have to for 6 weeks. Sitting down is ok now though. I'm 4 and a half weeks post op and pain free now.

I telephoned my GP for some sleeping tablets when i came home, which I had delivered. I was prescribed 7 in total but only took 3. I learned that they helped me get to sleep but didn't stop me from waking up every hour or so when I wanted to turn in bed. So I stopped taking them.

Getting comfy and sleeping is a common problem for us hippies as I've discovered on this forum. If you are in pain you definitely need some stronger medication especially for the 1st 2 weeks.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I was sent home with a few weeks of Tramadol the first time, coedine the second time ....... so yes, you should be able to get some.

    I'd ask for them !

Wow Scott, I would think you most definitely need some pain relief.  Of course oxy works best, but tramadol was ok too, at least to help you through the first few weeks of this.

I was sent home with a prescription for norco 10's: hydrocodone + acetaminophen. It's mind-boggling that your surgeon didn't prescribe strong pain meds for you when you went home - just unbelievable! I had a hard time getting comfortable sitting or lying down even with the opioids. Can't imagine what it would have been like without them. I was on them for 4 weeks, tapered off the 5th week.

Hello anniek , I've been in contact with the doctors and they have prescribed me some codeine phosphate , so hopefully these might make a difference during the day x

Sure hope it helps. If not, call and let them know! There are many different pain relievers, some work and some don't, depends on the person.
