Pain relief

Posted , 3 users are following.

So today sees me starting my 4th antibiotic (amoxycillin)

The sample that was dipped yesterday showed no infection, although as I have been on Keflex for a week that is not unusual.

I still have this bad lower back pain (for the last 3 days I had a bloated sore lower left abdo). I was taking ibuprofen and co codamol.

The co codamol made me constipated and I had stomach cramps over the last 2 days so i have stopped that and won't take it again. It ciuld also have been the ibuprofen I guess

Is paracetamol the only thing I can take?

I would advise you to take the pain reliever that does the best job for you and, if that is the one causing constipation, take an OTC stool softener.  When I ruptured my hamstring and was in the hospital for two weeks in 2015, I was given Vicodin for pain around the clock and sent home with a good supply of refills (the pain was terrible during rehab) and constipation was the end result.  I was told to try stool softeners by a friend who had gone through a long stage of taking opioids during cancer treatments and, within 12 hours, I was as good as new.

    Hi Amanda,

After suffering from pyelonephritis for the past 18 months I can imagine the amount of pain you're in!

I would really advise you to take the most effective painkiller, even if it is the one that gives you constipation. Personally I think codeine works best, and yes it does cause constipation but if you take a softener along side it it really helps. The best thing for you is to take something that is going to ease the pain off, rather than just paracetamol that may work for a short amount of time and then watching the clock as to when you can have the next. Once the antibiotics have gotten into your system the pain should wear off (fingers crossed)

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Did your pyelonephritis start as a UTI and progressed to the kidney?

      No rolleyes

To say pyelonephritis is caused by an untreated UTI, I have never had the symptoms of a UTI, no cystitis, burning sensation, urge to always urinate etc. It just literally goes straight to my kidney and I end up hospitalised sad
