Pain relief

Apart from steroid injections has anyone been offered any form of medication that has had a positive impact on the symptoms of CTS especially pain and stiffness of the fingers?

I was told to take anti inflammatory and paracetamol. I don't think anything covers you for the time spent asleep though.

It's either injections or surgery from my experience.

I have bilateral carpal tunnel. So far I've had surgery on my left hand which still feels like I have CTS (I'm right hand dominate). I've never had a steroid injection because my doctor says he doesn't believe it will help. I have been prescribed Gabapentin, Lyrica, Naproxen, Cyclobenzaprine, Tizanidine & Flexeril. I was told they were for nerve pain or muscle relaxers. For me none have worked. I'm still sleep deprived, my hands, wrists & forearms hurt (numb, tingling & sharp pains). I will be following this thread to see if anyone has found anything they feel actually relieves CTS symptoms & pains.

I am afraid that the only medication which has been clearly shown to have an effect on CTS is steroids in one form or another. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen are often suugested but were no better than placebo in a randomised controlled trial, the same applies to diuretics and gabapentin. If you have another painful/stiff condition such as rheumatoid arthritis which is leading to secondary CTS then NSAIDs' might help. Dr J Bland
