Pain Relief

i was diagnosed with PMR 6 weeks ago and started on 20 mg of preds.  although there was a vast improvement in the level of pain within a couple of days I still have pain throughout the day but more severe in the morning.  My preds have been gradually reduced and I am now on 10 mg.  my question is will I ever be pain free?  Or is this the way my life will be from now on?

You have had the dose reduced far too quickly - after 6 weeks you should still be at over 15mg. That is not a gradual reduction.

Your guide is the level of freedom from pain you achieved at 20mg. You should then have stayed at 20mg for at least a month until you felt as well as possible and stable. If your blood markers were raised they should have been at least well down, preferably in normal range. Then a 2.5mg reduction may have worked - if not 1mg reductions should be used, If you were OK at 17.5mg you could have tried for 15mg after 3-4 weeks. From 15mg it is far better to reduce at 1mg intervals - no reduction step in tapering in PMR should be more than 10% of the current dose.

If you can't get 1mg doses - where are you? They must have lower doses for children- then using the DSNS approach may work for you:
