Posted , 26 users are following.
Diagnosed with 2 slipped discs and artheritis, april 2007, 2 weeks ago went in hosital and had epidural injection, the relef was instant, but alas now 2 weeks lata the pain seems to be worse, also skipped a period, which i have read is side effects from the injection, definatly not pregnant, thank god.
I would like to hear from anyone else who has had the epidural injections, and did they work for you?
Been suffering with the pain since october 2006, and not sure what the next step is, im a bit scared about having the operation, any ideas on what other options i have?
Feeling down in the dumps now, after having nearly 2 weeks of no pain, and now its back with a vengance, any information will be greatly recieved.

thanx all for your imput and i knew what would be said , i had an appointment with my occupational health this morning to see if im fit enough to go back full time! i didnt tell her that ive been doing extra shifts but i,ve realized that im not super woman and im going to slow down ive told my team leader that im going on 30 hour weeks for a few months and i need to have regular rest days not to be working 7 days before a rest day, i think maybe in the long run this recent pain has put things in perspective for me. I cant afford to go back sick as i, was lucky enough to be paid for 12 mths initially and of course the waiting for the op took all of that time so if i go back sick within the next 2 yrs i have to go back on incapacity benefit, im glad to say im not so bad today the pain is still there but not enough for pain meds so hopefully i havent done to much damage. thanx again all for your support. gail

How are feeling? Have you had surgery or are you waiting for it and how long have you had this condition for?

I hope that you do keep using this site. As you say, post surgery we all have something to give and something to learn. You have been through the bad stuff too and until it happens to you it is hard for people to comprehend somebody else's experiences. I tend to relate most closely to people that have had two surgeries or had complications, because of my own experiences.
You are right, I don't think we will ever forget these experiences, or what it was like to be so ill. I strongly believe that what goes around comes around. I needed a lot of help and advice when my problems started last year.....now this year I can draw on my experiences to hopefully help others. I think that there are a lot of people who have nowhere to go to get support, that is why sites like this are a blessing. Knowledge is power!!
How are you doing generally? I hope that you are taking good care of yourself.
Best wishes

Got a letter from the hospital today for my first physio appointment and assessment. It is on 17 April.....................just 14 weeks after I left hospital!!! I was told it would be two weeks!!! Hardly seems worth the bother going it has all been left so long and it means taking half a day annual leave, but I will go.
All those here that had their surgery about the same time as me started their physio weeks ago. It seems that yet again they forgot about me/failed me. It will be added to my list of grievances that they are about to get hit with.
Best get out my lycra shorts I suppose

well after posting on here a few days ago ,i took your advice and went to speak to my doctor today about the pain i still have from my disc. What a waste of time that was. I was told that its not the disc causing the pain as you cant feel pain from the disc???????? but its a muscle that hurts.
Well i may be wrong but it sure feels like the pain i had from the disc since it first happend.I told him that whan i sit down, stand or lift my leg to go upstairs and also when walking that the pain goes deep into my buttock and is starting once again to go down into my leg, but he still insists its a muscle. I have a nother appointment with my chiropractor in 2 weeks so hopefully he will be more helpful.

You poor thing they are really letting you down aren't they?
Cant believe your first appointment is 14 weeks after surgery!! That is just pathetic.
I am now under my local hospital thank god, who sorted physio for the first week after I was discharged, with an appointment to check up my progress for three weeks after.
Walton, on the other hand sent me a letter for a checkup for 4 months time!!!! Thank god my hospital sorted me out.
I have lodged a complaint with Walton anyway about my treatment after discharge, maybe you should do same?

I haven't disappeared ( unfortunately hehehehe).
Well, physio has told me from my movements I am looking at a minimum of 6 months to get anywhere near normal. Great.
I have now got a trapped nerve / sciatica in left leg.
I have to use a wheelchair outside as can hardly walk.
And who created stairs?!?!?!?! I want a lift - or one of those stairmasters.
hahahaha.
There is a piece of stitch that feels like wire sticking out of the top of my scar area. Covered it with a plaster and will tell consultant next week. That and many other things.
Why oh why cant a person have an operation and heal properly? Really scared as I seem to have convinced myself I may have to undergoe further surgery and will loose my legs.
Dream this every night. Any one else scared like this :?:
Anyway - I am going slightly mad as not been out for ages and sit looking at the same 4 walls every day.
Does anyone take Pregabalin? If so are you constantly hungrey and putting on weight? I am. Hate it.
Maybe one day I will post I am OK. hahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Jess

Seriously, get a second opinion. Thats how all my problems have started and I am now in a total mess. After a third surgery I have the same pain as you now in my left leg and very scared.
If it gets worse and your doctor wont listen, go straight to your local A&E dept. Dont let it get worse.

I have to agree with Jess, get a second opinion. If another doc isn't available, go to A&E with the pain like Jess says. At least that way, you'll get on a list to have an MRI scan. The pain you describe is JUST like sciatic pain, this IS caused by the disc, or the jelly part of the disc seeping out and covering your sciatic nerve. Sorry, I'm not ranting at you hon, I'm ranting at your GP, what an idiot!!!
Seriously though, I would google sciatic pain too and check out your symptoms. Take this with you when you see the doc.
Good luck, I do wish you well. There's only so much a chiropractor can do with a prolapsed disc so just be careful he/she isn't taking you for a ride either.
Best wishes

I've not yet had my op but I do fear about losing the use of my legs too. Not dreamt about it yet but I probably will.
6 months eh? Well I really hope you make progress everyday from now on. I really wish you speedier recovery than that. And I completely understand about staring at the four walls, that's been me for the last 4 months, kinda got used to it now. Think I've forgotten how to drive ha ha.
Best wishes, keep strong

its funny how doctors can make you doubt yourself isnt it. I told him exactly how it started and he agreed with the diagnosis my chiropractor had given of the prolaps disc pressing on the sciatic nerve which is why i cant understand him saying in the next breath that its not the disc causing pain but a muscle. He was the doctor who put me on Tramadol tablets right at the beginning when it first started, even then he told me it was muscle pain. Well im sure you will both agree there is a big difference between this pain and a pulled muscle, you both probably know that better than me.
I did mention to him about getting it checked out but he said it was pointless any pain from a damaged disc can last months if not longer, so even there he contradicted himself, by implying it was to do ewith the disc.
I think you both right i need another opinion.
I,m so glad i found this forum it helps to know theres others who know what your talking about and to get help and advice from.
Thank you so much Jude and Jess for taking the time to help.
Best wishes
