Pain/swelling 6 days after tooth extraction

Hi everyone,

I'm just looking for some advice/words of comfort as I'm a bit concerned and unsure about a recent tooth extraction I had. I had my left upper molar extracted 6 days ago and so far I've been trying to be really careful to avoid dry socket - salt rinses (only after 24 hours), I have not smoked, used straws, spat etc etc I've followed all the advice given to me.

I'm getting very frustrated as I havent actually eaten any food for the last 6 days - not even in liquid form. all I've done is drank diluted juice with water and I've just now introduced warm hot chocolates. My concern is that *my tooth is still too sensitive to eat anything and the tooth is still slightly swollen. I am not in a great amount of pain as I'm not even taking any pain meds, however there is a dull pain and I can feel it in my head slightly - but the pain is not severe at. I've had a look at my non existence tooth and the red 'blood clot' is still there but its quite small and looks more whitish in colour. I'm still too scared to eat or even touch it / put my teeth together as it still feels sensitive.

should I be worried or is this normal after 6 days? everyone is telling me that my tooth must be infected but surely I would be having a lot more pain. I'm wondering how long did it take for others to eat *normally and for their tooth to heal? please share your experiences below / any suggestions. thank you

it can take up to 3/4 weeks for the gum to completley heal after extraction

thanks. so its more likely the swollen gum rather than an infection?
