Pain under left side ribcage....

Posted , 44 users are following.

About a week ago I woke to a pain on my left side under the ribs, I thought I'd slept awkwardly but the pain didn't go as it usually would. The pain is like a stitch/pulled muscle/gas sort of pain but with sharp stabbing pains also.

I ended up in A&E and was admitted whilst they ran tests. I tested positive for the protein that clots release but a vq scan ruled a clot out. I had orotein/blood in my urine but doctors said this is normal in a woman of my age (34). An ecg and chest xray both came back clear. I was then discharged and told it could be muscular skeletal.

It's about a week since the onset of pain and it does feel less painful when turning in bed etc but I still have this pain under my left rib. If you have ever been pregnant, it's the feeling of baby with its foot in your rib. It's still twinging to my back. I have also got random sharp pains in my stomach and it feels a bit bruised. Bowel movements are softer than usual but not diarrhoea as in I have to go urgently and extremely regularly.

In general been feeling under the weather for weeks. Had dental work and infrction 5 or 6 weeks ago and have had numerous doses if antibiotics prescribed; could this be a link? I have eaten live yogurt to avoid thrush. I am aware of gassy noises/feelings in my gut.

Any help is appreciated. smile

    Hi

No, I have not had any blood stool tests. I did have a colonoscopy back in April, which came back clear.

Last night really freaked me out. I went to the toilet and my urine was full of crystals, looked like someone had thrown glitter down the loo. And this morning, I had a bowel movement (quite a large one after 3days, but it was brown, I was relieved to see).

I still have a pain under my left rib, but it feels different to before, more to the front, not the side and back

I really hope I get some answers today, but I don't think I will, I will have to wait for the results.

Thank you for taking the time to reply

Thank you for your good wishes

I had the CT scan, but now I have to wait for the results, hopefully by the end of the week

However, the consultant I saw today was awful. He didn't ask me many questions, and essentially told me that anxiety was all that was wrong with me. He even said "Do you want to be the consultant today? Do my job?" and "everyone gets back ache, even me"

Ho wouldn't listen to anything I was trying to say, very dismissive. I told him about my PC fears, and said "if you have PC, I will resign, I have been in gastroenterology for 15 years, 5 of them as a consultant. It was all very humiliating.

He asked me nothing about my bowels, urine etc.

Anyway, the scan is done at least.

Last night I woke up and the pain was really bad, I actually thought, let me die now, I don't care anymore

      I feel so alone

      Hi

My CT scan came back normal, which is obviously a huge relief, I couldn't quite believe it when I was told. I still need to find out the diagnosis, but for now, I am holding tight onto the thought that it is not a tumour on my pancreas/liver/gallbladder/spleen/kidney

I have also updated the thread I started

      Many thanks

    Hi boogagirl41

I saw my GP last week with almost exact symptoms, he has stated Gastritis for the first and prescribed lansoprazole for 28 days.

the symptoms had died down till he examined with a tummy press after that the flare up was the worst for some time so am wondering if there is infection too and going back to him.

anyway, not sure what the tabs are doing as there is discomfort of some sort past 7 days, however can say; drinking a cup of warm water really helps, particularly half hour before food, add honey/grated ginger if you cant take the bland. Movement, even a small walk around the house gives some relief. Stay away from anything that excites the stomach acid, white foods rice, pasta - try the whole grains instead. Calming fruits are good bananas, papaya, apple (even tho acidic its good for the gut and stomach), pears - am staying away from oranges tho just in case. Split peas (easy to cook), lentils, beans, whole grain pasta have helped and stabilised the diarrohea to proper stools. Veggies are always good.

Have a read up on the gastritis thing it may ease some anxiety

    hope

this helps as your blog helped me, good to know were not alone and crazy 😉
