Pain very low down ?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have had IBS for many years but over the last couple of years my symptoms have got worse and over the last few months have an almost constant pain very low down in my abdomen about 2-3 inches below my belly button and to the right & left and also getting mild lower back aches, my bowel movements alternate between D&C and have tried ALL the usual medications, diets etc. Does anyone else get this pain very low down with IBS and back ache too ?

Thanks for listening.

This sounds exactly like what I've been living with for the past month and a half.  It started out as pain very low across the abdomen, like menstrual cramps (sorry, I know that's not something you can relate to, but it's the only thing I can compare it to) and went on for weeks.  The only relief I got was from having a BM or expelling gas.  I stopped taking omeprazole at my GI doctor's advice, and the pain eased up significantly but still didn't go away completely.  I also stopped taking naproxen (aleve) for my neck and shoulder pain, as I had been taking it regularly for years and recently read that it can cause severe gastrointestinal issues.

Lately the pain has been mostly in my lower left and traveling up to the middle left side of my abdomen and around my back.  The doctor said that "the only thing in that area is intestine" and therefore diagnosed the pain as being gastrointestinal.  I'm trying an elimination diet, avoiding gluten and dairy, to see if it will help.  I stopped drinking coffee because it gives me terrible heartburn and I'm drinking mostly peppermint tea now when I feel like a hot drink.

If I'm very constipated, I will take a dose of Miralax, which helps clean me out and provides a break from the pain.  I don't like taking too many prescription meds because every one I ever take seems to hit me hard with unpleasant side effects, so I'm trying to deal with the IBS primarily with diet and OTC meds.

    Hope this helps a little!

for pain between neck and shoulder, consider a memory form pillow.  I just got one and the pain is gone.  Just a thot.

Most prescribed meds disagree with me too. Some OTC remedies work better.
