Pain / Walk too soon?

Posted , 13 users are following.

Hi. I am 5 weeks post op. I have been walking without assistance for 3 days with some pain. I now have a persistent pain from my right groin, going across and down to my knee. Should I go back to my cane until my pain is gone, or power through.

I was told by the phsio at the hospital to always use a cane if needed as it is counter productive to not nuse it and limp. I have found it to be the case as it takes a day or two to settle down if you start to have pain.

Personally I would still use the cane or crutch, even now at 13 weeks if I am going to do a lot of walking then I take my cane 5 weeks is to me is too early to be without a cane

I saw consultant today 6" weeks post op band he advised still use crutch or stick outside. He says it takes the brain a while to recognise new hip so we care vulnerable to trips etc. If you are in pain you are overdoing it. So go easy on yourself. As someone on here said its not a race.xxx

Yes! Thank you. I have slowed down and gone back to the cane, especially now that I am back at work full time. Thank you for the reply!!😊
