Pain when arm overhead?

Hello, hope someone can help? I have been going to the gym for 6 months now & developed a pain around the shoulder when doing any type of overhead exercise. It is hard to locate the pain as it feels as if it’s the back part of my shoulder but radiates down the back of my arm around the tricep. This is where is is the most painful. The pain feels dull to sharpish & it seems to almost disappear once I have exercised. This part of my arm also feels slightly weak when I wake in the morning with a slight dull pain which goes away once I have moved about a bit. I have tried pinpointing what position my arm as to be in when I get the most pain & I think the term is abducted and externally rotated. My gut feeling is that it is some kind of impingement? Any ideas?

Great questions for your doctor.  Could be a strain or tear.  Best to have it checked up so you can treat and rehab properly.  Good luck!

Sounds like it could be an impingement. Have a look through YouTube there are a number of v good videos from physiotherapists to help you diag and treat. Rest and gentle Pilates is a safe bet if you don't want to see a medic.
