Painful Burning Sensation In Urethra - No Uti Or Std - Female

I am a 21 year old female in the UK, and I have been suffering with a painful burning sensation which I believe to be coming from my urethra since September 2014. The pain comes and goes throughout the day, and it will be at its most intense after having urinated, and after sex. At its worst I struggle to walk. The need to urinate has increased but there is no difficulty in going, though I do now most often have two streams when urinating which sometimes will stop and start. On multiple occasions there has also been thick blood in my urine too.
No UTIs have ever shown up on the paper dip test at my local GPs, though I have had UTIs in the past. I have tested negative to all STDs. I have had ultrasound scans which have shown nothing abnormal. I have had numerous internal examinations by doctors and one by a Gynaecologist, all have said everything looks normal and healthy.
My GP has had me try at least 6 different types of antibiotics but none have had any effect on me, except for Cefalexin which I took once a day for 28 days, the pain felt lifted and sex was possible again, but 3-4 days after having finished my course I was back to how I was before them.
I drink plenty of fluids (including cranberry juice) and eat healthy, I don't drink alcohol, smoke, or take drugs. All pain killers have very little effect on the pain, only a hot water bottle sat between my thighs brings any relief. Taking cranberry capsules, and/or cystitis relief sachets has had no effect.
I am about ready to give up on my local GP, its doctors and the NHS, no matter how many appointments I make and attend no progress is ever made, no tests are ever taken and my request to be referred to a Urologist has been repeatedly turned down, I am only ever told to drink more water and to try a new antibiotic, which I pay for each time, no one seems willing to search and to find out what is causing the pain. Affording to go private is a problem for me though, and so I just hope there is someone out there who can relate to me and give me guidance/knowledge on what to do.
This pain is now negatively affecting all aspects of my life.

Hi so I see this was two years ago. I'm so sorry for all the pain and anguish you've been going through. I have been dealing with issues with vaginal and urethra pain sine I was in my early thirties I'm now 59. I do get a lot of UTIs but a lot of times there's no infection I am blessed with a great caring gyno dr. I've been to gyno urologist don't if you've been to one? They specialize in female issues, as the above person they also go in with camera and do all other tests. I'm right now dealing with this pain and I use lidocaine ointment it's a prescription it nums the pain though not completely. My dr also prescribed Premarin vaginal cream for the inside of the vagina that helps some. I do encourage you to keep searching for help you may have to find a new dr. I hope you find the help you need and your feeling better soon. Take care😇??

Hi Cindy ( and others on this post).. i had urethral buning and bladder for many months. Was agonising. Ended up spending a lot of money on specialists who were zero help as well. Forget the NHS! Then i came across a women's physio and got diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.... my muscles are so tight they are literally squashing my bladder and urethra. Can also be caused by low tone pelvic floor muscle. I urge you to get checked out.. conventional doctors dont understand that the pelvic floor muscles can cause these pains. And with no cysts, bacteria etc it baffles them. One month later after physio exercises, yoga and muscle relaxers when i need them, im on the mend. Its kind of like IBS of the vagina i guess. If you are in London see Jess at White Hart Clinic. So kind and patient. And was only 90 pounds for a long session. Good luck ladies.

Hi! I'm a pelvic floor physical therapist. The exercises given to you depend on what the problem is. You need to be assessed in order to determine if your muscles are too tight and painful or low tone, and abdominal and leg muscles and connective tissue are looked at as well. Basically exercises include pelvic floor contractions or levels in varying positions and for different lengths of time, core and hip muscle strengthening, stretches as needed, and relaxation and calming training. You can try some yoga poses (downward dog, upward dog, half pigeon), or look up hamstring, piriformis, and ab stretches, and find a guided meditation on YouTube for free that can help with pain.

I'm 22 & have been experiencing extreme burning sensation in my urethrea for 11 MONTHS too. I've been to 7 gynaecologists and 4 urologists who can't find anything wrong. Do you really think my pelvic may being causing this constant problem?

You would think the 4 gyno you've been to would have enough sense to check you for pelvic floor disorder! I truly feel your pain and hope you find answers. Please update if you do!

It is awful. So sorry. Been going through it for almost 3 years. Had uti's for the first year and a half and now just have the burning all the time. Frozen small water bottles wrapped in napkins and placed on the urethra helps a lot for me. I hope you get help.

Yes they did. The first time was from ecoli and all the others were from klebsiella bacteria. If yours are from ecoli then take dmannose every day. That keeps ecoli out. Olive leaf extract pills keep out klebsiella. Dmannose I've been taking for almost 3 years and no ecoli! I just started the olive a few months ago but it took away the klebsiella but now I'm just left with burning like I have a uti all the time 😟😟😟😟

So sorry, I know it's horrible. Have you tried AZO or Uristat? That helps to numb the bladder and urethra. Also I use the small 8 oz water bottles and freeze them, wrap it in napkins and place directly on the urethra. The napkins are so it doesn't burn your skin. Keep it on til it feels better then remove. Then put it back again if the pain comes back. Also when you bathe dont use ANY soap down there. Just warm water because soap will irritate it more. Please feel free to ask anymore questions and I hope you feel better. PS I use a frozen water bottle at night to help me sleep.
