Painful cramping 1 week after having copper coil fitted.

Hi,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I had a copper coil fitted at my GP a week ago today. The procedure went fine and afterwards I experienced some left sided pain in my pelvis (nothing too bad, more like a full ache), however that went away after 24 hours. Since then it's generally been fine. I would get cramp after I orgasmed but it would go away. Yesterday however, I experienced really bad cramps that I can only described as similar to period pain.

At first I thought it was just my period as I usually get really bad period pains and I'm really heavy, but I'm not due for my period for another week and I am like clock work. However, I only had a few spots of blood and nothing since so it's not my period.

The pains lasted for about 6 hours and paracetamol/ibruprofen didn't touch it. The pain came in waves and when it was there it was that bad I couldn't be stood up.

Overnight there was minimal pain and I went back to my GP today however I had no pain at the time so she seems to think it's unlikely that the coil has purferated

The pain has come back tonight, not as bad but it's still there. I'm starting to question whether it has purferated. Would the pain be constant or can it be intermittent?

I also have an IUD but mine was fitted in Jan. I've recently had the same pain on the left side along with back pain and feeling a little nauseous it lasted for a few days. I called my doctor who I couldn't see at the time and eventually the pain left and then I had a bit of bleeding. I then had one day of pain the next week. I finally was about to see my doctor and told her and she pretty much said it was probably a cyst especially since it happened around the time for me to have my period. She did say that if it continues to happen that she'll have to do an ultra sound on me to see if there is another issue, etc. I had a pap test during this time and she didn't seem to think there were any other issues.... so maybe you are having cysts also?

I had a copper coil fitted about 4 years for about 8 months. I remember feeling lots of pains like this at times. It does improve, remember you are accepting a foreign body in you. If it does persist tho go back to Gp just to check it is ok and not an infection either x
