Painful Heels

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone experienced aching heels on the bottom of your feet? Its not just when I have been on my feet all day. I sometimes have it when i get out of bed. I actually remember feeling it in the beginning of PMR several years ago. I go to my Rheumatologist Monday and will ask . Was just curious.
Thanks

Hi Sami
Thank you for sharing as I can't remember anyone else mentioning feet, although it could be my foggy brain.
I also have the same thing , ankles as well.
Like you I will mention to Rheumatologist on Tuesday.
Looking forward to hear what your specialist has to say.

sami....I don't currently have pain in my heels (one of the few places I don't!...lol), however, when I was 17 and in high school, I (overnight) developed pain in the balls of my feet and my heels. it was so incredibly painful, I was on crutches for almost a year. I used to CRAWL to the bathroom every am!
after Many tests, and a years worth of medical appts. I was finally dx w/rheu arthritis.
it disappeared as quickly as it appeared....almost overnight!
in hindsight, I'm beginning to wonder if that may have been the BEGINNING of pmr, some 60yrs ago ??!!

Does your doctor know you possibly had an episode of inflammatory arthritis as a teenager? IS it PMR? Or late onset RA?

It sounds as if it might be fasciitis - an inflammation of the fascia, which is the connective tissue surrounding muscles, blood vessels and nerves in the foot. It's really painful and you have to be careful with the shoes you wear. I had it a couple of years before diagnosis and it's pretty common so I don't know whether or not it was an ominous sign!

I had a lot of foot pain associated with PMR - and sore heels was one part of it.

Hi sami 5555, I'm sorry you are in pain. PMR is a very bizarre condition, just when you think you're getting better, something else starts to hurt. For the longest time, with PMR, every joint hurt except my ankles and toes but 2.5 years into PMR and now the bottom of my feet hurt, especially the heels. I think it's fasciitis and I find wearing flip-flop is a definite no no. Even my house slippers have been causing me pain. Wearing memory foam insoles along with a good quality heel gel insert has helped me A LOT! It was instant relief. The memory foam inserts helped more than the gel ones and I feel much, much better using them. Otherwise, nothing else helped, I tried ice, heat, acupuncture with no success. I also believe that if you can minimize the pain, your body will try to heal itself. Having painful heels affects the whole body, your posture, how you walk, causing pain in knees and hips, so I hope you feel better soon. Take care.
