Painful 'tingling muscles on waking

Does anyone else wake to a very strange electrical like tingling feeling in their muscles? It's as I wake, muscles in my legs particularly, go through an almost painful few minutes of this strange feeling.

`I had this a few months back and the GP sent me for a blood test and said it was not due to PMR!  I upped my Mr Fred's and it made no difference so went back down again and stayed there for a while. It has now gone!!!

I don't think your Doctor is right. What was he looking for in the bloods, I wonder?  It seems like the nerves are waking up the muscles, having been fully relaxed,  only happens as I wake up. Cant be bothered with the Doc. He wont know and it's just another 'thing' to deal with. I'm sure it's not serious.

Glad to hear yours has gone though

I've never identified the feeling I get as being in muscles - I've always assumed it is nerves.

The first time I really remember noticing it was when I was having a severe episode of atrial fibrillation - a drug reaction while I was in hospital a few years ago. They were trying to get a cannula into my arm and each time they tried it was like electric shocks down both arms and legs. Bizarre!

However - it is a less severe version of the same pain I get before a wave of warmth washes over me, like someone kicks me in the solar plexus and then it spreads all over. Bit like a "hot flush" I suppose but always preceded by this solar plexus "ping". And the ones first thing in the morning like you describe are the strongest. Duvet is chucked off for 3 or 4 minutes - and then I'm cold again! No idea what time it happens, I'd think maybe 6.30, judging by the light coming through the roller blinds? I do wonder if it is the body releasing cortisol - earlier, at a higher dose, it would have been happening earlier, maybe sometime after 4am which would have been when the pred was at its highest level in the blood (I'm on Lodotra, you take it at 10pm, releases at about 2am and peaks about 4pm).

I'm hoping from all the comments that my muscles too have 'woken' up.  I do feel a lot stronger, but I have taken to walking quite briskly for around 20 mins every day - wet, cold or otherwise!

About three days into my prednisone treatment I had a night where it felt like "things" were crawling under my skin, all over.  I wonder if it was a similar sensation?  A little like hairs rising on your skin, although I sensed it under my skin.  Never felt it since but at the time I was content that that would be my worst pred side effect.  I wish!
