Painful vaginal issues

Starting approximately 20 years ago I started having tingling, itching which turned into swelling and painful discomfort in the vaginal, vulva area and even anal area. I have been to my gynocologist and he has never officially diagnosed me with genital herpes. In the past, I might have an episode and then might not have it for a year 2 or even 3. Remembering back, It seems it would always come on with some kind of illness or stressful situation. I had covid in September 2021 and had an episode then. I have had 2 episodes within about 3 weeks time. I have been back to my doctor recently and he took a swab and said my hormones are out of balance and treated me for bacterial vaginosis. That didnt seem to help and neither did acyclovir which he perscribed hese outbreaks, nothing seems to help. I have read and read to try and figure out what might be going on and now I am just confused. When I have these outbreaks, I do not really see sores like I see people posting with herpes. It starts out intense itching, tingling and burning with swelling. The itching continues but it hurts like hell to even touch it. After a day or so if the itching, burning and swelling, I do seem to get a huge blister, but it is up inside. Thse episodes last about a week and a half to 2 weeks. They are miserable. I have a very stressful job and have been going through some marital problems and I am sure that is what is bringing this on but I must find a solution. I cannot keep getting these outbreaks as I must work. I am going through perimenopause which I am sure is also not helping. My husband does not seem to have any issues. We have been married 32 years. I do take a preventative Acyclovir daily. If it is herpes, why is my OBGYN not finding it or telling me that is the case. Any advice or recommendations it greatly appreciated. I am so miserable I am in tears. PLEASE HELP!!

Hello. Have you ever tested for herpes via blood test- igm or igg?

you can go to a clinic that offers STI panels and ask for HSV testing specifically. Best to go when you have an episode so you can ask for a culture to be taken. blood testing is sadly not reliable, but culture testing is almost 98% accurate. adding zinc, vitamin c, and lysine to your daily oral intake can also help stay away from nuts and chocolate in excessive amounts as it can cause episodes (outbreaks)
