Painfully passing bloody mucus

Hey! I hope this is the right place to ask this. 27 Year old female here, I'm gonna look into making a doctors appointment tomorrow, but... I'd like to go in with some info first.

So last Saturday I had some diarrhea in the morning; not too weird for me, I have IBS-D, though pretty mild. I passed it off as nerves (was off on a date that day) and took a couple Imodium. I ended up taking two more during the day as "just in case". I ate light that weekend and didn't pass anything.

Come Monday, I woke up feeling crampier than usual. Later in the day, I ended up passing some mucus. Some of it bloody (bright red). Passing mucus isn't *too* weird for me, but having some bright red blood mixed in is not too ordinary. Usually, it stops after about a day, not this time though. The mucus is like... Brownish/Yellowish/Orangeish... Kinda. And smells like dead fish. (Best way I can describe this nastiness)

Then Tuesday all hell broke loose. Whenever stool was passing through me, it left me in utter agony. Whenever it wasn't passing, I was still in some pretty bad pain. All of the stool going through was totally normal, but often came with a lot of gunk and mucus. Sometimes I continued to pass just mucus with blood in it, usually before or after  a BM.

This continued through Wednesday and Thursday (though by Thursday, there was no more blood involved)

Friday things started to look up for me, I realize now because I was finally empty. I was crampy, but more or less comfortable. I didn't pass a single thing, not even mucus. I was feeling adventurous, so I even ate a couple fresh bread rolls.

Of course now on Saturday I'm suffering for those bread rolls, as more stool has been periodically passing through. More of the same, normal stool comes through with some gunk attached to it, sometimes large chunks of just... Gunk and mess follow, no more blood though. (Heck, before the stool came, I kept having gas that was really really painful too, though that stopped now)

So tl;dr passing stool causes a lot of lower abdominal pain, feeling AWFUL cramps all the time otherwise, passing a lot of mucus with the stool that started out with some bright red blood in it (that stopped now). I don't have a fever, I'm not nauseous, I'm not dizzy/light headed, I'm not vomiting. No pain in rectum, just lower abdominal. My appetite is more or less normal but there's no way in hell I'm making the same mistake in eating until I can get this sorted out.

-Could this have somehow been caused by the Imodium? I never take the stuff, so it seems weird this would happen so soon after I took too much (I say too much because holy hell it left me so dizzy and nauseated)

I wonder if I constipated myself a bit much, is all. I got a bit over zealous in not wanting to crap my pants.

-I've done so much digging into google and various gut related sites to see what all my options are. Seems like anything from food poisoning to IBD and the like. Is there even any possibility of it being food poisoning without nausea/vomiting? What about something like internal hemorrhoids?

(Also worth noting: A year or so ago, I had a few incidents with passing bloody mucus, but not with the pain like this, so I went and got a colonoscopy and other tests. However, they came up clean. The doctors had no explanation for me.)

Anyones thoughts would be VERY gratefully appreciated! As I said, I AM going to the doctor either way, but I really want to prepare myself for the worst...

Try not to think of the worst case scenario.  All IBS patients do this and it makes symptoms far worse.  Consider more benign reasons such as haemorrhoids or fissures which can be caused by diarrhoea and constipation.  These things are common with IBS. Have you heard of the Fodmap diet?  Have you thought about a food diary?

Thanks for the reply! Oh, I know, I tend to really worry. I'm on some anti-anxiety meds which makes things better, but... Yeah. I've been thinking about trying Fodmaps! Hell, I was gonna try that this week, until disaster struck. I do keep a food diary as well, it helped me eliminate at least two triggers.smile

Could it really just be hemorrhoids or the like? That'd be a bit better...

(I feel so much better today now that I'm empty... Sigh. I want to eat.)

Haemorrhoids and fissures are very common and are treatable and curable.  Your doctor will able to confirm whether you have either of these. If you have an external haemorrhoid you would be able to feel it and see it.
