Painkillers?

I've been diagnosed with frozen shoulder recently and have been pescribed Tramadol but this is having no effect whatsoever!
Are there stronger alternatives I can ask my doctor for ? I can't sleep and suffer constant pain, it's excruciating and I've never experienced anything like it before !

It's good you're reading back over the forum - a distraction if nothing else & to know others in the frozen shoulder club GET it!
It was when I was in this thickest of pain you're describing that I decided to quit all treatment that was aggravating my shoulder. I stopped striving to fix it. The doc gave me long-acting codeine so I could function in the day & sleep longer at night, and he gave me regular codeine as needed for breakthru pain. We tweaked my prescription as needed. I used it for maybe 3-4 months while freezing. Pillows, recliner, TENS - all the gentle care helped so much more than the aggressive physio. Ice for the burning pain; heat for the achey pain - heating pad/gels/hot shower. (It sounds corny, but I "listened" way better to my shoulder to know what it needed. Sometimes I even talked to it nicely instead of yelling at it. LOL!)
The good news is that this pain is self-limiting. The pain does resolve when the frozen stage starts. You'll sleep again on that side, and it will thaw in its time. I did not choose surgical interventions after weighing the outcomes of people's experiences here, but did the prescription codeine, guided cortisone (timed well) and very gentle PT to help normalize my muscles while thawing.
It makes a world of difference to have medical professionals who understand & care & aren't shy to offer effective painkillers for the short time we need them. Keep doing what you're doing to research & find the best options for you!

What did NOT help:
-PT makes it worse in painful stage
-Had 4 or 5 Cortisone shots, ended up with one sinus injection after another, no more injections for me. (Helped a little, but not much.)
What DID help
-Accupuncture
-Massage (avoiding the nasty bits in the shoulder of course. Helps relax the rest of your muscles as we are compensating for the FS.)
-Regular organic Juicing and eating non-inflamtory foods (search google).
-Gentle stretching and regular exercise (even walking and setting a goal of 2-3 miles in a day, gets your blood moving and gives you something else to focus on.)
Drugs: Naproxen, Norco 7.5 or Norco 10. (I tried not to take Norco daily, but some days you have to, FS is that painful. Norco does help.)
Good luck, hope we all heal soon!
