palindromic rheumatoid arthritis

After about 10 years of observing my RA symptoms, my rheumatologist told me I have a fairly rare form of RA called palindromic RA. My symptoms are that the pain I experience is not necessarily symmetric (e.g. both wrists) but may occur on one side. Also, pain and swelling travels around in my body. For a month or more, it might be my right knee and not my left. Then I will have tendon inflammation in my groin for a couple of weeks. Then it might move on to my left foot. Never a dull moment trying to predict where it will be next week. Has anyone experienced this? I am currently on mtx and hydroxychloroquine. I have found that turmeric really helps and so does pineapple juice and blackcherry juice.

I am new to this but that is my experience. The inflammation moves around. The passion is in all joints but the swellings isn't all bilateral.

If you have had it for 20 years why are you still suffering? Are you on the right medication? I was assuming that there were now drugs out there to help most RA sufferers. I hate to think that is not the case. I had never heard of that before either. I must google it. Is your doctor helping you enough?

hi sherry.the way I see it is its relative.i wouldn't say I'm suffering.not like early days.yes medication helps.but it doesn't mean I don't experience pain.i have it virtually everyday.now I'm almost used to it.i was answering Tim's question if anyone has it.far as I knew I've had ordinary RA since started.whatever ordinary is.

That's fine Ivan. Gold is quite an old method of treatment but still used I know. Just be aware that there are much better drugs available now. Don't suffer in silence!

Forgive me for asking,Ivan, but are you seeing a rheumatologist instead of a GP? My mother had osteo (I don't) and I once asked her who her arthritis doctor was. She was surprised to hear that there are those who specialize in both kinds ofarthritis. I sent her to mine and she had significant relief.

For those interested in starting on curcumen (turmeric). Curcumin is not readily taken up by the body so by itself will probably give no releif. Curcumen should be taken with black pepper, black pepper increases curcumen's eficacy by some 2000%, so unless you take it with black pepper you are probably wasting your time. Pineapple taken with curcumen is also beneficial. The core of the pineapple contains the enzyme 'bromelain', bromelain has been shown to help RA sufferers; so, when preparing your pineapple remember it is the core you want, do not discard..

I will look for turmeric with black pepper. However, when I sweat I smell like tree bark (turmeric comes from bark) so that tells me I must have absorbed it. (Sorry to be so graphic
