Palipations gradually getting worse

Hi

I used to get these big thuds in my chest and has them investigated and was told pretty much my heart was fine apart from a very slightly leaky tricuspid valve. This was a few years ago.

In December the thuds came back intermittently but now I’m getting them every day throughout the day.

The only medication I take is sertraline. I was changed onto this from citalopram last summer.

Any advice?

The palpitations are making me panic which I’m sure is exacerbating them!

    Hi Katie,

Best to get it checked of course, but Sertraline certainly has given me palpitations when first taking it initially, hopefully this will settle down with time.

Hi Katie I'm the same, i got massive thuds with my heart like skipped heart beats some days are really bad like today and last night, they are so scary it doesn't feel normal! I've been tested a few times and doctors say my heart is fine, I have quite bad heart anxiety. I too am on sertraline since October and was on citalopram for 7 years before that (citalopram stopped working ) but I've always had these bad skipped heart beats, best you go to doctors to get it checked out katie x

Hi Katie, what mg of sertraline are you on? Are you finding it helpful? Did you get bad side effects of the citalopram when it stopped working, I had a mini nervous breakdown and I didn't realise the citalopram had stopped working for weeks it was literally hell on earth. Sertraline hasn't done much for me, I'm on 150mg, I started the sertraline in mid October, I feel my body and nerves haven't recovered from the citalopram melt down.

I’m only on 50mg. I had exactly the same problem as you when the Citalpram stopped working I ended up walking into the drs and begging for an appointment. I was in a really bad way.

I think it does take a long long time to get over something like that. I had some psychotherapy to help me. That was a massive help.

I’ve had a problem using alcohol in the past to numb my feelings so I did dry January this year and felt amazing mentally which is why I’m so gutted and worried about these palpitations.

      Xx
