    Leslie,

I don't know anything about taking HRT but I can tell you I've had great results from taking melatonin every night. I too had racing heart/palpitations and got really fed up with them waking me up....my heart rate would sometimes go all the way up to 140 bpm.

I too had an ECG, no echo though. It came back perfectly normal. Nothing wrong with my heart but hormones driving the tachycardia. I am finding that elevated levels of cortisol are causing mine, from what I can tell. I've been taking melatonin for the past 2 weeks and sleep better, no waking from a racing heart. I feel calmer during the day. It took a few days to get adjusted to the melatonin though. For the first 4 to 5 days I felt lightheaded in the mornings. I've since gotten adjusted to it.

I do take magnesium 2x a day also... 250 mg 2x a day. I also stopped drinking coffee in the morning (ouch-hard to give up) and switched to black tea.

Hope this helps you or anyone else reading it đŸ˜ƒ I will be posting elsewhere about what's been helping me. I imagine it may help someone else too đŸ˜ƒ

btw, I'm just bout 53 and have gone 96 days without a period. I believe I'm in the "home stretch" to meno đŸ˜ƒ

Melatonin is over the counter here in the US. Not sure where you're located? It is a hormone secreted by your pineal gland in the evening to help promote sleep.

How many milligrams of magnesium are you taking? Maybe try taking half the dose you are currently taking. See if that is gentler on your stomach.

Yes, I count down the days until the day I hit menopause !

Lesley - I'll take a guess that you're probably in the UK being this forum originates there. I was just looking to see if melatonin can be purchased OTC, looks like it isn't available...only through prescription.

There is a natural form of melatonin found in tart cherries. I'm sure you could find tart cherry juice or maybe supplements? I take tart cherry supplements for the melatonin. I just looked -- they do sell tart cherry supplements in the UK.Montmorency cherry is supposed to be a good source of melatonin.

      Here's from a website:

Cherries, in particular the Montmorency variety, contain melatonin—about 13 nanograms of melatonin per gram of cherry. Recall that there are a million nanograms in a milligram, so a kilogram of cherries would contain 13,000 nanograms or 0.013 mg of melatonin.
