Palpitations and heavy chest

I've had skipping heartbeats for the last few months, sometimes it can be for several seconds which makes me feel my heart is stopping. I also suffer with trapped wind and digestive issues - would this be causing a heavy feeling in my chest? I've had blood tests, xrays which were clear, but one of my ECG's showed ectopic beats. I am currently wearing a holter monitor for 7 days which should hopefully explain things. My skipped beats are scary and I can't sleep. Does anyone else suffer with this?

Hi Claire, just to be sure, please do get yourself checked (ECG...), but it is a "common" perimenopause symptom. Skipped heartbeat or palpitations are common in peri and menopause and when it happens in the beginning can be definitely really scary!
Hang in there!

Yes - experienced everything you have mentioned for a period of time. Has gone away and then come back intermittently throughout the years. Have had multiple EKGs when happening and have worn a holter (other than a blip one of the nights, nothing concerning to note). Heart stuff is very nervewracking, so hang in there and hopefully your test results will give you peace of mind (and then you'll likely question "what if the holter was defective...?"...in which case, that will be the health anxiety kicking in because these symptoms don't feel like they should be part of a peri-menopause experience!!!) LOL!
It's not really funny at all, when going through it, but it's likely something we all have felt when we just can't wrap our brains around the fact that so many weird symptoms can come from this period of life!! It's very challenging to not experience some level of health anxiety when going through this time. I suspect your results will be comforting and you can feel less concerned about these physical changes that are happening. I hope you can feel at ease about this soon...

i started experiencing tachycardia in jan 2019 at 43 years old, i had several ecg, wore a holter monitor, heart ultrasound and ct scan of heart, all results showed normal, im now 45 and still experiencing increased heart rate daily but no where near as high as last year, i believe im in peri as have now had longer cycles this year of 41 days and more recent 54 days, however last year when heart rate was really bad my periods were still every 25-28 days, i have also noticed increase in pvs which heart feels like it stops for a second or 2 and cant catch breathe, hope this helps

During perimenopause (the time period before menopause), there is a marked decrease in ovarian estrogen production. This is associated with an increase in heart rate (sinus tachycardia) and an increased frequency in palpitations and non-threatening arrhythmias, such as premature ventricular contractions or PVCs.

I get sinus tachycardia in the middle of the night. My understanding that it is from hot flashes. I'm unusually hot when I have them. I was given beta-blockers for it. I wore a 48-hour holter monitor that came back with only a few skipped beats. I did not have an episode of tachy while wearing the monitor.
I've had 4 episodes of tachy this past week while sleeping. Very aggravating!! And scary!! I wear a fitbit so I can see that my heart rate can be 60 something while sleeping and then suddenly double!! Wakes me up then I take a beta-blocker which takes awhile to kick in. She wanted me to take 2 beta blockers a day but they were making me fatigued and dopey.
It's been a year since the cardiologist visit but I am to go back next week just for a follow up/check up. I'm sure it's not my heart...Just Peri...or possibly Meno at this point...It's been 6 months since I've had a period.

Hi yes to all of these skipped beats, tachy, fluttering, caused me so much stress found myself checking my pulse every few mins sent my health anxiety sky high. had all the tests which were all ok but it is still very disturbing when it happens. I found magnesium daily really helped me.
Hope this helps.
