Palpitations, how many?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi guys. Can I ask how many palpitations a day you get? I have been getting them all day now for over 2 weeks. Approximately 12 episodes a minute for hours at a time, worse in the evening. Some big thumps and sometimes just flutters. I go to sleep with them and wake up with them. Really getting me down now. Meant to be going on holiday in 3 weeks and not sure if I should go. Seeing a cardiologist on Friday but I don't think I will have tests done and answers before I go.

Thank you for all your comments. It is reassuring to know that im not on my own with these awful symptoms. I've had palpitations for over 20 years. But never as bad or as frequent as they are at the moment. I'm currently taking 40ml of propranalol but it's not helping. I'm 50 now and just hoping this episode passes soon.

    Hi Karen

My symptoms are like yours - a 24 hour ECG showed I do have very regular ectopic beats. The cardiologist thinks it's stress - had a cardiogram which showed nothing bad (thankfully!) so maybe it is stress?  I can now recognise that the  big jumps and leaps are when I'm worried about work.  Possibly alcohol-related at some points but as these beats are 24/7 heaven only knows what I can do.

Look into modifying your diet.  I stopped dairy first which helped tremendously.

Its because the gut and heart are connected.

    Good luck.

I am so sorry Karen you are going through this.  I went almost a month the first of the year with constant PVCs.   I got so i didn't even want to get out of bed.   The strange thing was, when i finally had a 48 hour holter moniter done, it only showed 25 PVCs and a few SVTs.   My body is on a break now and i am not feeling them so often.   I know we are always told these things are minor and will not harm us but while they are going on,  it is very life altering.     Take your vacation and good luck with the cardiologist.

Sorry to hear you're getting these awful things! I'm 17 and I get quite bad episodes about once a month where I'd have 20 palpitations a minute and that is really scary. I hope your cardiologist sorts something out.

Hi, There was a time in my life when I was getting ectopics very bad everyday and night. I waited it out and after about a year, they did get better. Sometimes, time will heal. Keep a log, do not over eat, or drink, get plenty of sleep, exercise, try to ignore them and tell yourself they will not kill you.
