Palpitations & Pins&needles in feet/hands?

Hi. I've just joined this group so this is my first post here.

Basically, for the past 4/5 years I've been getting heart flutters / palpitations. Usually only once or twice a day followed by slight pins & needles in hands/feet/arms legs etc. sometimes the pins & needles last a few seconds, sometimes they last a little while.

I am on beta blockers (Atenolol and Bendrafluozide) for highly blood pressure, but I've been on these for around 20 years.

I mentioned this to the nurse a few years ago when I went in for my routine blood pressure checkup and described the symptoms. She said it's usually nothing to worry about, but try and keep a diary of when it was happening, if I was stressed at the time etc to see if there was any kind of patters. She also said don't drink as much coca cola / coffee etc.

She said if it was still a concern to me after a while I could come back to her and she could look into whether or not it may be worthwhile getting it monitored by wearing some kind of monitor for a few days.

In the end I never ever went back, although I do keep a diary ongoing. There doesn't seem to be any pattern that I can see, although it only seems to happen when I'm sitting around and not too busy (or should I say, I only really notice it then)

Recently it has been getting more frequent though. I averaged it out and it used to be around once a day (sometimes I got a few, some days I never noticed any). The key word here is 'noticed', because I'm sure I would have been getting them but not noticing, especially when I was more active and not just sitting around.

I just lived with it because the nurse told me at the time it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

However, lately they are getting more although I've been under considerable stress over the last two months.

I just wondered your views ?

Could I be getting these when I'm more active, but just not noticing them ?

Why do I always seem to get tingling/light pins&needles in hands, feet, legs and sometimes arms/wrists after any palpitations?

I'm getting around 3 or 4 of these a day over the past couple of months (maybe linked with the stress I've been undergoing, I'm not sure).

I don't seem to get them in bed, which I find odd, I don't seem to get awoken by them, o don't seem to get them when I'm sitting at work!. Really odd.

Any ideas folks ?, is it common ?

Regards

Andy

Andy, before you evaluate these yourself, you should always see your doctor or specialist, get it checked out. Once you find they are benign (which they usually are) then it's a good time to start thinking about what you could be doing/eating or getting stressed about that could be bringing these things on. Mentioning it to the nurse was a good start, but realistically she is not a specialist, and until you see one you will still get that little niggle at the back of your mind that things might not be okay, when they are probably quite benign of course......  And you then will join the so many of us who anx through each occurrence but who also know we are fine, we just need to probably change our lifestyle/food/ and lower stress levels to feel wellbeing again....good luck Andy...

Thanks Lizzie, that's very kind of you. Yeah I think you're right. I'm due to see the doctor next week so I think I'll have a word with her about it. I'm just a born worrier and I really don't like going to the doctors rolleyes

But the fact I've left it so long probably means I know deep down I'm okay, but it's nice to hear a doctor telling me that rather than me trying to convince myself that.

      Thanks again
