Hi I've just recently lost my job and then I had a drink driving accident and had to go to court and lost my licence.   In the midst of all this I applied for a local job in a care home.   I have had mild panic attacks and anxiety and sleepless nights regarding my future.   My doctor has prescribed Sertaline 50mg and I am supposed to start taking them tomorrow.   I am worried as I think I may have to start a new job next week.  Will I be okay I am worried about the side effects?   Can anyone help?

    Hi Palela,

From my experience with sertraline you need a few weeks until the side effects calm down. It may be difficult for you to work but everyones different and everyone responds to the medication differently!

Good luck with the court and that smile

Start by taking half a tablet a day they are scored and break easily. It mitigated side effects for me. The added bonus was I found 25mg enough.

    hi Pamela,

Sorry to hear about your recent life events, Pamela. It'll work out in end (as my mum used to say). 50mg of Sertraline is a starter dose. There will be side effects but - as rossyarch says - we're all different, and you might feel one thing, when someone else on the same medication won't know what you're talking about. The side affects are absolutely tolerable (if you get any at all). I'm on my 9th week of 50mg. I read the patient leaflet that came with the medication and broke out in a cold sweat. OMG, what's going to happen. Not a lot happened and I was able to function absolutley fine until, eventually, the Sertraline positives started to blossom. I had a couple of headaches, over this journey. I had some nausea, sleep pattern interruptions, tiredness etc, but nothing that would inhibit my daily life. Don't worry, it's not that bad. But you have to stick with it to at least six weeks. Please give it a go and go with the flow. Best of luck and warm regards. Glenn

      Hi Glen

Just to let you know I have taken your advice and I am taking half of the Sertraline tablet and the only side effect so far is a bad headache in the mornings.   I dont sleep very well at the moment as I have lots of worries so I also take a sleeping tablet which helps. Thanks for your advice.   Pam

Hiya I've been on them for nearly a year, yes they have helped me but I wished i did it without them,as they are really hard to come off.the side affects are horrible! I am currently trying to come off them and go on to herbal ones which are a lot better.

Thanks for your comments.   I will start off slowly with half a tablet as suggested and see how I go... can you tell me what herbal ones you used?

      Regards
