Pancreas Problems

Hi Went to see my GP in August with a constant pain under my right ribs going through to my back. He thought it was gall stones and sent me for an ultrasound.  Ihad been home no more than an hour when the GP surgery rang to say he wanted to see me He said I had a distended pancreatic bile duct and was going to fast track me to the hospital. I was terrified. To cut a long story short I saw the consultant who said I didn't have cancer, I had had blood test 2 days previous so I presume it was that which told him He said he wanted me to have an endoscopy, Ct scan with dye and he would see me with the results I had these test he didn't see me I received a letter saying I needed a MRCP scan once again convinced he had found something I was terrified. I heard nothing for 2 weeks kept ringing his secretary, who kept telling me not to worry. I went to see the GP who said the same and gave me some omeprazole 40 mg a day  Last week I received a copy of the letter to my GP it said unexplained pain, cross section imaging shows no worrying hepatobilary pancreatic abnormality. The intrahepatic bile ducts and common bile duct are of normal calibre. I am pleased to say the test results show no worrying abnormalityMy stomach and gullet appear to be normal, no appointment made but would be pleased to see me again if necessary. I went back to my GP and said what is this pain he just said he didn't know, and doubled my tablets to 80mg a day, and said he would refer me back. I took the tablets, which made me feel worse headache nausea, horrendous indigestion, so I stopped taking them.  I still have pain but not the other side effects. I have received an appointment for the15th November, I need some answers, but I'm not sure what the questions will be, any ideas. Am I wrong to go back to see the consultant.  and what do all the results mean

You didn't mention that your bloodwork showed any abnormal pancreatic enzyme levels, so I'm assuming that was okay. I have had pain under my right rib off and on recently and I think it's gall bladder. I had a bad attack that spread to my upper right chest associated with a week of eating a lot of fatty foods! Wow - that was really scary and debilitating. I cut way back on red meat and fried food and the pain went away the next day. I will mention this to my GI doc when I see her next to see what she says about it. I suspected gall bladder because my mother had two years of trouble with her gall bladder duct or common duct and even elevated pancreatic enzymes which her doctor was not addressing. Whenever they looked with scans or ultrasound, everything looked normal. Her symptoms were pain, nausea and occasional vomiting, but she wasn't modifying her diet at all. She was eating a lot of saturated fat in her meals and would binge on chocolate. Finally a good GI did that procedure with a scope into her ducts and saw sludge there, so they recommended she had her gall bladder removed, which she did. She still hasn't modified her diet enough, so she often has discomfort after a meal! Why her doctors haven't stressed the dietary changes needed, I don't know. My point is that you still have pain, so there is something wrong. Doctors are not trained to investigate the cause if the standard tests don't reveal the problem. I would soon call the doctor to tell him or her  that I discontinued the omeprazole because of the side effects and whether it did or didn't relieve the pain and ask if I should be seen sooner than my scheduled appointment. I would keep this appointment and discuss the continued pain problem. The doctor should address it. If not to your satisfaction, I would get a new doctor. And keep in mind that most doctors will not address dietary changes that we can try that may help. High sugar and high fat stress out the pancreas and the gall bladder respectively. There's lots of info in articles here on this forum that probably cover diet. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hi saw my GI approx. 2 weeks ago, more or less dismissed me kept saying all test normal, didn't know why my GP had sent me back, said I needed to go back to him to treat symptoms. he did say back pain was a symptom of pancreas problems. I asked why I had been fast tracked, he said that was up to my GP !!! I'm at  the end of my tether, I feel dreadful, can't sleep, the new tablets he has tried are not working, also given me a top up medicine.  I still have the pain under my right ribs going through to the back, lots of gas and terribly constipated, the only way I go is if I take laxative. My daughters say I must try and ignore the symptoms, if only, and try and move on .. I cant get the speed  of the way I was sent to the hospital out of my mind, and now no one wants to know, yet nothing has changed for me. I don't eat fatty foods and always try and eat healthy , I haven't drank alcohol since feeling like this. While I appreciate stress doesn't help. I really don't know what to do next.
