Pancreatic Divisum - Acute Pancreatitus developing to Chronic Pancreatitus

I have had several Acute Pancreatitus attacks since 2009. Had a stent placed in the duct for the minor papilla going into the gall bladder duct. I am going in for another surgery next week. Does anyone else have Pancreatic Divisum and have you had to do multiple surgeries? Does it develop into Chronic Pancreatitus? Have you been told to go low fat for life even if you have had the surgery and your enzymes are normal (ie: no bowel pain)? I am alcohol free so that is not an issue. I just don't ever want to become a CP patient. Thanks for any help!!

Hi dear rjg1300, i want to share my experience with you, in 2013 i was dignosed with acute pancreatitis, after several attacks it turned into CP and till now it is not cured, i am advised to have fat free until amalyse and lypase gets to normal, and also to avoid alcohol, smoke, any junk food etc, so am doing the same and getting better day by day, but the condition of CP gets from acute one, if you would control from now, it wont convert into CP, make sure whenever amalyse and lypase levels are high, be on fat free and have fat free frequent diets, have proper rest and try homeopathy, this will increase your immune and only way to get back to norma... hope you get well soon

Thanks for your reply. I was told by a dietician to go meat free. To some extent I think she is right. Just didn't want to hear it. Makes sense to go low fat to prevent CP. Hope it goes well for you. To what extent do you use homeopathy?

I got AP when I was pregnant 12 years ago. My daughter is 11 and fine. They later found I had a divisum. I have had about 5 ERCPS. 4 during 2005 - 2006 and I've been pretty pain free, but I do have CP. Alcohol was never an issue. I do have a low fat diet and only eat meat or fish about 5% of the time, as it is hard to digest. I just had a bad flare in September of 2015 and an ERCP on 1/11/16. The stint was taken out a week later and I feel a lot better and I go back to work tomorrow. I advise you to be weary of the Whipple surgery or a modified Whipple. I have had multiple digestive doctors say that with a divisum the goals are pain control, eating a low fat diet, no alcohol (not our problem) and seeking treatment for pain. After so many pancreatic attacks your lipase or amylase enzymes might not go up, so you might be put in a Skilled Nursing Facility for IV fluids and IV pain meds. I've also tried acupuncture, exercise, imagery and relaxation exercises to decrease pain. Get a good pain doctor and advocate for yourself. Good luck.
