Pancreatitis and diabetes getting worse

Hi I have chronic pancreatitis and severe diabetes because of the damage done to my pancreas. I had a large operation last July in which half of my pancreas was taken away and have been on strong morphine based pain killers for past 3 years.

I have recently seen my consultant who has said the operation has not worked and there is nothing else that can be done. I am now on extremely high levels of pain killers which is causing extreme side effects including seizures, narcolepsy and messing with my kidney liver and bladder functions. Can any1 recommend any other options as I am currently spending most of my week in need to ill or weak to move or eat or completely space out from the medication.

You need to request an urgent appointment with the pain clinic.

Has your specialist spoken about complete removal of the pancreas and the possibility that it might help with the pain?

My surgeon has refused to remove my whole pancreas and has now said there is nothing more he can do surgery wise.

I am under pain clinic at moment and they increased morphine to 360mg a day plus put me on gabapentin which made symptoms worse so have now come off that agin.

My doctors don't seems to be overly helpful, even stating that they don't know what to do or how being on such high levels of medication will effect me. And to make most of times that I am feeling ok... I really don't know what to do now as it seems they are just gonna keep increasing my medication and surely I can't remain on that many drugs for the long haul?

Your surgeon might well have a very good reason for not wanting to remove the rest of the pancreas but it might be worth asking about having a second opinion.

Its shame about the Gabapentin, I found it excellent, although I'm now on the maximum dose. Pregabalin is an alternative, have they not suggested that? Some people can tolerate this better.
