Panic attack did I pass out?

Hey, Still feeling terrible, chest started to ache earlier whilst sat watching TV, then breathing went funny, had to lay down, felt rush across my chest adrenaline, so thought right, must control breathing, did exercises and slowed right down. Next thing I knew, i checked the time and an hour had passed, really surreal. Scared now I passed out, or did I just relax and fall asleep. Anyone else have an experience like this?

Hi Daz, you more than likely fell asleep or just spent a lot longer focusing on breathing than you thought. The whole panic attack thing is awful isn't it? Are you on any meds? Hope you feel Ok now.

wow, you've done well to tolerate getting up to 100 sert so quickly, it took me months going up in 25s! i found the first 2-3 weeks horrendous but when it clicks its brilliant, you'll get your life back. i put loads of weight on tho so switched to prozac but still have to watch my weight.

i found the worst bit was adrenaline dumps as you describe and that awful tightness in the chest, then of course the fearful thinking kicks in. my doc gave me beta blockers which stopped the worst parts of a panic attack. i was taking 3x40 mg propranalol daily. it quickly stopped the nocturnal panic attacks. after a couple of weeks i started on sertraline for the anxious thinking. i reckon at about 3 mths i felt a lot better on 100 mg, by 6 mths 150 mg and it really just clicked. however by 1 yr id put on so much weight the doc suggested prozac. otherwise idve stuck with sert, it was brilliant after the first few hellish weeks. hang in there. did your doc offer diazepam to take the edge off the initial side effects of sert? eventually when i told mine i was struggling on it she gave me 2mg diaz. calms the nervous system down. maybe it's something you could ask about?

No diazapam been offered yet, I don't think the GP's know how bad we can get tbh. But I think anxiety is one of those conditions that people don't understand unless they have had issues. I couldn't take propranolol as got asthma around.

Hi Daz, I absolutely agree! My doc saw the state i was in when she prescribed sertraline, gave no warnings how bad the side effects could be...and they were shocking for a few weeks...it was a connection on here that told me her doc had given her diaz (56 each time she asked!) , my doc reluctantly gave me 14 for 6 weeks then changed it to 12! yes i understand the possibility of addiction but come on, youre not going to get addicted on 14 over 6 weeks! i agree, unless youve been through it you can't know how horrendous it is on first few weeks on antidepressants. once i was allowed them, is i needed to get to a job interview or just have a break from suffering, 2mg was enough to just feel normal and in control for a day, they didnt make me feel spaced out or anything weird. plus you sleep well on them, whereas sertraline gave me insomnia!

You would not pass out because your body was pumping so much adrenaline around...... what proabbly happened is your body ended up recovering from the panic and made you extremely sleepy and boom you was asleep. I had the same sort of thing happen on my first panic attack (about 4 months ago) and still to this day I have chest pain

I have been on sertraline for 3 months now started on 50mg then 100mg NYE and now going to 150mg any day now. I also have seen weight gain but this unfortunately is a "possible" side effect as is losing weight. Every ones chemical make up is different. I have now had to start a weight management aswell but find it a vicious circle due to then sitting down and calming down, do nothing or very little but still eat so I am eating the same as I was working daily but my body isn't burning as much off.

Thanks for the replies, just worried me there for a moment. Doc has just put me up to 150mg. bn on 100mg 3 weeks, still feeling dreadful so hoping 150 will do the trick. I was on 150mg last year after a previous bad patch. Anyone else found calm at 150mg?

yes, i found my calm at 150, stayed on that for 6 more months then reduced to 100 which was enough by then. youll just know when youre on the right dose - you just realise you feel pretty good all of the time. downside is libido drops and weight gain increases. but over time you can cut down to the lowest dose that works for you. one thing at a time!
