Panic attack in sleep?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Just a little while ago I woke up out of my sleep in a panicky, confused, disoriented state. I still feel a little weird and am scared to go back to sleep. Is it possible to have a panic attack while sleeping?

Absolutely, all my worst panic attacks happened when I was sleeping. My first one I woke up from a dead sleep had no idea what was happening: heart was racing, my knees were locked my whole body was shaking, felt like something terrible was happening, tried to walk it off...

Yeah, mine terrified me. I thought something was happening to me, like a stroke. Even this morning I still feel off, all achy and exhausted. Thank you panic attack sad

Sometimes it takes me like an entire week to recover from a panic attack. It’s hard to reset your mind and accept it. It isn’t fair and it sucks. It is likely not anything serious though, it just feels very bad and your mind convinces you that it is. Drink lots of water, try to avoid caffeine and alcohol for a while, get some excercise and see how you feel.

I take a few supplements that I find somewhat beneficial. Tyrosine, B12, turmeric, fish oils, theanine,

      Glutamine....

5-htp (although don’t take with any anti depressants), I’ve heard good things about Sam-e ... just some good amino acids might help you level out.

Possibly especially if you have had a nightmare, have a glass of milk, possibly drinking chocolate and then try and go back to sleep.

Normally I have a Malt whiskey and sit for a while to compose myself

That’s the thing, I don’t remember dreaming. I just woke up out of nowhere feeling confused and in a state of panic. It really freaked me out sad. Finally went back to sleep about an hour later. I felt better earlier but I feel as if I’m starting to worry that it may happen again tonight. Praying it doesn’t!

Try and relax before bed. I will not discuss the day after about seven o clock and Will not argue or take part in discussions as well

With regard to television if you are watching something that is upsetting etc try and either record the program and watch it earlier in the day. Television can effect mood Are you arguing ?, if so Never go to bed on an Argument. You will chew over that when in bed

Do you know why this happened ?

I think the reason this happened is because I am having my gallbladder removed. I still have to be evaluated by a general surgeon for it. But I’ve never had surgery before so it’s terrifying to me.

I have been dealing with a lot of health anxiety since my Grammy passed in July. I was seeing a therapist earlier this year and stopped going because I felt that I was better but then her passing away happened and my anxiety sky rocketed. I just started going back to her though, so hopefully it helps again!

I really haven’t been feeling myself since my Grammy’s passing though.

Not to throw all of that at you BOB, sorry! But I will add that I slept great last night, so I’m thankful for that!

Gallbladder surgery is mostly done these day by micro surgery where several cameras and tools are inserted in your side and tummy, it is a straight forward operation and you will be in hospital for a short period of two three days. you may feel al little sickly afterward

I had the operation done several years ago and I am as right as rain so stop worrying, they will knock you out and not know anything about it

      I know, I know. I’m being silly 🙈.

Having it removed will make me feel better, so I’m looking forward to that!!

Thank you again BOB. Truly appreciate your replies!
