Panic attacks

I have had PMR for 3 years and have successfully decreased prednisilone to 5.5mgms ,no pain or stiffness, but balance poor especially when I am tired. I have been having panic attacksI and I can't understand why. GP says it is probably due to the prednisilone I wonder if the dose should be increased or decreased. Can anyone help?

Thanks for reading

He may be right - it is a side effect of pred reduction. But if you are at 5.5mg you are obviously reducing in very small steps - which should reduce the withdrawal problems. How much are you reducing at a time and how often? At what dose did they start?

Whether it is due to the pred or not - your GP could give you something to help the anxiety. Did he not offer any help?

Panic attacks started at 6mgms. GP has not suggested anything. I am feeling so lost and confused.

Go back, with someone for support if necessary and ask for help.

CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is available, I believ,e on the National Health and can be organised by your GP.  It is short term, effective and even though panic attacks may be  a side effect of pred. the CBT self-help techniques will contribute to   controlling and  to cutingt them short.

I had a spell of what could be described as panic attacks during my second round of PMR. My GP suggested that taking my Pred. at night might help and it did though his suggestion raised several eyebrows and I'm by no means recommending it to anyone else.

Extreme muscle weakness also affected my balance but this righted itself, albeit very slowly, once I got to zero Pred. more than three years ago.

I had PMR twice with three years in between. The episodes were very different re side effects; almost none first time, you name it, second time.
