Panic attacks after eating sugar?

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has the same problem. I have had panic attacks on and off for many years and currently on Citalopram. My diet is generally very clean but I do have cheat days from time to time and I noticed that every time I eat something sweet I get very fast heart beat, my hands are going numb, etc. I told my GP and she did some blood tests to check for diabetes (although she said she thinks its just sugar sensitivity and not diabetes) and the tests came back normal. The GP says because I dont normally eat sugar, my body is most likely just sensitive to it.

However, I am really anxious and every time i eat sugar I feel unwell and I get very unpleasant feelings in my body. Is it possible that sugar simply triggers my anxiety or should I insist for another diabetes blood test?

Thank you.

sugar probably triggers your anxiety and you are probably sensitive to it like the doctor said. if your test came back normal then so will next one. its sounds like every time you eat a sugar product you have a panic attack .

does the citalopram work for you?

Thank you Darren. I have been on Citalopram for around 5 years and generally it seems to work well most of the time until I eat something sweet (fruit is ok though).

yes fruit is ok and vital for your diet. do you get anxious and panicky before you eat sugary products?

then the same after eating it?

i do but not so much and not for long. If I eat too much sugar though I always have panic attacks and they last on and off for hours after.

except for fruit just lay off it.

its bad for you anyway. by not eating it you stay healthier.
