Panic Attacks and Anxiety with no panic or stress.

Hey,
I'm nearly 50, my first huge panic attack came at 20 (after inhalation of 10 marijuana bongs).
For 5 years after I had many such attacks and many A & E visits (resulting in a perfect bill of health), however for the last 25 years my attacks have been very sparse.
However for the past 6 months I have had no such attack but I have been getting breathing problems associated with the 'panic attack', they come and go and sometimes they last for hours.
I have been back to the doctors and have had a full range of blood test, x-rays and such and am told my health is perfect and it is anxiety.
I am not stressed, I am happy and I certainly don't feel anxious yet these bouts of breathing difficulties are a nightmare sometimes.
I am curious, are there any other people affected by this problem who DO NOT get the other symptoms of the panic attack and are only plagued by this single ailment?

Hi Lochsong,
I have been through the exact same thing. I am an anxious person in general and I've been through loads of phases of panic etc. About 5 months ago I randomly started worrying about my breathing after having a cold and sense then its been a problem. I feel like I can't breathe whatever I do. My chest goes tight and heavy. It was non-stop for a couple of months and now it is on and off. Been to the docs too with nothing wrong. At the time I was and still am really happy with my life in every way and hadn't been feeling anxious at all.
Its obviously linked to anxiety, anxious people tend to have obsessional traits in their thinking, i.e. focussing/obsessing over something which makes it worse and creates more problems. Its crazy how powerful the mind is. Keeping busy and accepting that its your mind playing tricks is the trick. Although easier said than done!

I suffer with the strange breathing sensation i can go weeks breathing normally than all of a sudden i feel like i can't breathe like i can't get a full amount of air into my lungs so frustrating and uncomfortable. I find distraction is a good cure try and focus on something else i read on my phone or talk to someone and find my symptoms are much less when im not by myself it only takes a few bad breaths and thats it its like i can't breathe!
