Panic attacks in the middle of the night

I've written here before about my anxiety and how physically crippling it can be. well I have decided that I was going to fight this. I can control my mind and not the other way around. I feel some of the measures I have taken have helped somewhat and I have noticed that some of my physical symptoms or dwindling.

However, since having a few major panic attacks recently I have noticed a weird physical sensation while I'm in the midst of falling asleep or waking up in the middle of a deep sleep. I either feel weird vibrations in my chest and legs or I feel like a wave of electricity or intense energy radiating through my body. It's not painful but its definitely really uncomfortable and that alone starts setting off my anxiety. It's really hard to explain. It's really weird.

I chalked it up to another anxiety symptom. I thought maybe with the string of panic attacks my nerves were probably still high strung? I don't know...was wondering if other people felt this way or had weird sensations like this while trying to sleep or getting woken up from it?

What you are experiencing is probably a change in blood pressure. When you go to sleep or finish a sleep cycle, usually 90 to 120 minutes, natural changes occur as your subconscious autonomic systems take over. I unfortunately experience this all the time, in my case further complicated and driven by chronic pain. You might want to get a BP monitor and check your Blood Pressure and pulse numbers during these episodes. You may be experiencing hypotension - low blood pressure which your medical provider should he aware of. The drop can trigger a rapid pulse response which can mimic panic attacks as well.

I don't get rapid heart rates or anything like that with it! it's just the sensations I feel. If I don't feed into it and overthink, it goes away and I fall back to sleep just fine. I just find it weird that it happens sometimes.

Hi. Hope this helps you. I too have suffered from severe anxiety. One of my symptoms was the electricity going through my chest and legs. At first i was scared but then i read about it and ignored it. In time it stopped. I totally get how you feel. Anxiety causes all sorts of awful symptoms. I hope you get better.
