panicked a bit

I'm recently divorced and have had a little bit of sexual adventure. Only with one person and I've never seen any sort of sores on him. I've been shaving a lot and do have extremely sensitive skin. My upper thighs are riddled with scars from bumps from shaving. Anyways, I've been having some pain between my anus and vagina but can't really see anything there but do see a lot of bumps on my vagina. They are a little painful to touch but not excutiating. It's not painful to walk or anything. The one purple looking one I was squeezing to see if it would bust but it wouldn't. I don't see any oozing from them but have been having some light vaginal mucousy discharge which I was pretty sure was from a BV infection which I'm taking antibiotics for. I'd think if I am getting these sores down here I'd also be getting them in my mouth but nothing there. Do they look like herpes? Some have been there several days, maybe even a week. There is just a lot more present now.

Are the bumps all on skin with hairs, or do you have any bumps/sores on mucosal skin as well? Looks like a bad shaving reaction, but that doesn't mean it's not herpes, as herpes can mimic various conditions, doesn't have to hurt a lot, nor does it typically appear simultaneously in the mouth. I would give up shaving for a while and switch to a close trim instead, even if it's not herpes, but especially if it is.

It's all on surfaces where I have shaved. I've noticed them popping up over the last few months honestly but never this many. It does seem like it has gone down some even since this morning. I think I've irritated it myself a lot by trying to look at it and see if it looks like the pictures I have seen. The areas that hurt (around my anus) don't have any bumps at all so I believe it is unrelated.

I am rather hairy because I have a condition called PCOS. My hairs are also very thick. I have a hard time getting smooth so I go over the same areas a lot and have to do it every day if I want it smooth. I even get these little red bumps on my belly area where I shave there too...It's been happening for years but I'm worried because of the new partner thing

Oh yeah...had that done in some spots. I'm considering waxing but afraid of the embarassment, lol. I just hope this isn't what I am worried about...I've been googling images all day and can't find anything that looks remotely like what I see and I hear they usually pop and become sores in a few days and these aren't like that. I've felt everywhere and don't feel any bumps inside. Maybe I'll just ask my doctor to order a blood test so I don't have to show my face in there. Would be just my luck, get divorced cause my husband cheated several times and then I sleep with one person after and I get something....

I don't even normally shave there...I just have been because it was something new. I hate the pain when it is growing back...it always hurts.

Much better to do a swab test asap, but that depends on how long you've had the bumps. The swab test is always best, but is only good for fairly new lesions, unless you can do a pcr swab. Otherwise you need to wait 3+ months to do the IgG test (not IgM).

Well i sent my doctor a picture to see what she says...Im so worried and don't know what this would mean for me

I sent a picture to my doctor because I have a pretty busy schedule this week. They called and said it looks more like razor burn to them. I've had this razor burn in the past I just don't usually shave as much as I have been. I think it likely got infected or something. Bumps are still there but all I really feel is like a tugging, kind of like when hair regrowth rubs against fabric. I still am a little concerned but I don't even think they could swab as I have no oozing from any of the bumps, some of which now look a little like sores, but my razor burn has been known to do that in the past. And I've been really focused on using witch hazel to bring them down. Maybe I'm just in denial but if I got this, I likely got it from the one partner I've had in the past 3 months. Would be just my luck. I've had unprotected sex with 3 guys in my lifetime and I'm 31. One was my husband of 10 years, then this new guy and a drunken encounter at 18. But I'm not freakin because I really don't hurt except in my anal area where I have a hemmoroid that is obviously flared up because I can see it and feel it and I've had that a long time now. Sitting on my butt all day doesn't help that situation either.

For peace of mind, in that case, just do the IgG test at 3+ months. In the meantime, don't worry too much about it. May well be just a simple shaving rash, which is how it looks to me, too.

I sure hope so. I got some up close pictures and did see hairs growing out of some of the spots. It's just dry and kind of irritating right now but nothing painful like I've heard and read that herpes ulcers are. Even the doctors office, when I told them it didn't hurt, said they doubted herpes because herpes is generally very painful.

I don't. Understand why 3 month of wait. I dnt have outbreak i. Just. Had a blood test. I tasted. Positive. For h2

Since I found out I've been in shock emotionally stressed out because this is a monster inside of me I have researched everything about it so how can a doctor said you have to wait 3 months to get tested when this thing is in our life forever and it doesn't go away if I was you I would go to a different doctor and ask to have a blood test done they're more effective I work in the hospital and I have talked to other Physicians which than my coworkers and they told me it's better to get a blood test in a swab and you don't have to wait 3 months this is your life get a different doctor to do you the test the reason why I got tested it because I was feeling sick with flu-like symptoms and I ended up having a rash on my arm so I had a worked up to see if anything was wrong with me medically but the only thing she had it was an STD test of herpes. So i dnt seewhy u have wait

You may have had it a long time and never knew. Some people never get outbreaks. I've read that something like 90% of people who have it, have no clue.

No three months ago I had a test done for STD and I tested negative was with a man for 2 years he had to move away because he got a new job out of state so when he came back to visit me I asked him if he had any encounters while he was alone he told me no I asked several times if he did he said no so after he left a week later I end up feeling really sick with the flu like symptoms that's why I end up going to the doctors so she told me I'm going to do a workup on you plus I'm going to do an STD test to compare from 3 months ago so three months ago I was clean so that means I got it from him he was with somebody and didn't use protection you know to get herpes you can get it right away you always contagious so that's what happened to me I was unlucky because a person lied to me and I wasn't using protection with him because I trusted him so now I have this monster in me and I am stressed out because I can't get rid of him I am lucky that I haven't had any outbursts like everybody else but that doesn't mean I won't get money I have to live with this it's awful how can you deal with this emotionally that's the hard thing for me I don't know how to deal with it emotionally I am still I'm shocked especially after I told him and this person doesn't seem to care after 2 years of being together that's my story

Tests can also give false negatives. I've heard that the blood test can do that

    • Posted

If you have had no lesions to swab, then you can only test by IgG, which requires around 3 months from the date of exposure to become detectable in the blood. Can be sooner, but 3 or more months are what's recommended for the HSV IgG blood test. IgM test is not advised.

Yes but i was tested twice. One off the doctors. Test. Me again this wk no luck i am having a hard time understanding why ur doctor dnt test

U is ur life i guess I've been pretty lucky to have a good doctor and also have my friend who's a doctor test me at the hospital I wish I can help you but you should insist of having a blood test you can repeat it at least twice this is your life it's not theirs we are the ones will have to live with this

    • Posted

I didn't have to wait 3 months to be tested and I didn't have any lesions either the only thing I had was that I was feeling sick like flu like very weak and a rash on my on my arm but three months ago before that I had a regular checkup and she also did the STDs and I was negative back then so the only person who I was exposed to was him in a week later after he left that's when I started feeling sick and remember you can be exposed to this right away you might not feel symptoms or you might do feel symptoms and that's what my doctor told me and my coworker that he is a doctor

    • Posted

Yes, you can develop various symptoms within days, but the IgG antibodies in your blood only become reliably detectable around 3 months later. If you test too soon, it may come back with a false negative. A lot of IgG antibody tests are like this, but just for HSV. You need to clear the test window for reliable results. IgG antibodies do not reach detectable levels within hours or days. It's just how it is.

    • Posted

Well maybe my doctor's did that because I had prior the test like 3 months ago and like you said you have to wait 3 months so maybe that's why she did that I don't know but I will next time I see her I will ask her and I will also ask my coworker about that

    • Posted

If you want to test for herpes but don't have any lesions to swab, then do the IgG (not IgM) antibody test 3 months from the last time you had sex with your partner and felt ill. If you already did that, then those are your results. If not, then that's when you should test to find out. I can't tell from the info you supplied when you tested in relation to your partner other than before. Mention "test window" to your colleague.

Hi, What do you mean by "just for hsv"? Do you mean only hsv is detectable earlier after the exposure?

      Thanks smile

So I've been taking photos every day, The bumps did kind of ulcer but I still never really had any pain like I've read about. They weren't weepy and never blistered. Now I have a new one on my upper butt cheek that looks like a pimple (again, something I've had before from shaving). When looking closely at the pictures nearly every single one of the bumps has hair growing right in the middle of it. Some appear ingrown. I know ingrowns will ulcer and scab as well. My partner and I kind of spoke about it last night and he assured me he never has had any herpes but I guess you can never be sure. It's too late to swab them if they are. My only real concern is while I don't have any pain in my vagina or on the bumps on the front my backside still really hurts and I have bumps back there that are really inflamed. I've been using hydrocortizone which really seems to help with the pain. I've never really experienced any itching just a tugging feeling in the front when I walk kind of like hair regrowth rubbing on clothing. I definitely have an inflamed hemorroid that is giving off a discharge that could be contributing to the irritation back there which I can't say hasn't happened before and due to hairiness I was shaving between the cheeks a bit. Mainly hurts when I sit for a long period of time or mess with it all like wiping or if I bear down to use the bathroom or cough. It felt much better this morning before I decided to use some hemorroid cream inside sad And I've been having what I would consider "breakthrough bleeding" for about 3 weeks. It's just kind of a dark red blood. I started birth control back in June so I'm hoping that is what is contributing to that.

And something kind of strange is sometimes it almost feels like air bubbles are coming out. I've researched and researched but can't find any information about this...any ideas?

I'm still really hoping that my partner is being truthful here. I've only gotten bumps like this after shaving and I'm really just praying that the continual shaving over and over where I was already irritated is what has caused this.

That is why you should really get it swabbed, then you would know either way. The whole not knowing business can be very stressful, with the next opportunity to test some 3 months away. I can tell you're quite worried and would like reassurance. No chance you can get in for a test this week? A pcr swab would still be reliable.

I just have no discharge from any of the bumps. Nor do I have most of the classic symptoms. I kind of freak out like this alot. I never would have even noticed how bad it was if I hadn't been having pain from the hemorrhoid and was looking to see what was going on.

    • Posted

Even though I doubt you have it and suspect a bad shaving rash, you should note that only half of herpes cases are "classic". Blisters and weeping aren't necessary. Mine don't do either, nor do I get any discharge or tingling (other symptoms that people cite). Not trying to freak you out, just saying! Herpes is not as "standard" as people think when it comes to how it presents.

I always get like this it seems. First time I had sex I was convinced I was pregnant for about 3 months despite negative tests.

I even shave my arms and had a bump that looked just like the rest that ulcered and scabbed.

My ex cheated on me as well so I'm like...could I have had it this whole time? But you'd think the stress of dealing with him would have brought on the outbreak...lol.

But as of now I'm just being really careful...washing my hands all the time (which they hate, lovely cracks in my skin)

Every time I get a little tingle on my lip I'm thinking something is going to pop up...lol. I've never even had a cold sore...

This is how it looks today by my leg. the moisture and white stuff is from cream

Ouch, I'd definitely ease up on the shaving and switch to trimming/waxing. Still looks more like a shaving reaction.

Most of everything has healed, spots on my vulva are gone. The stuff on my upper vagina never scabbed, nothing scabbed or leaked. The healing bumps look exactly like healing razor bumps always have. Only issue is my butt crack area. Its been pretty uncomfortable with hemorrhoid issues plus it's been hot and I've been sweaty so just passing the bumps back there are just aggravated from that plus some occasional stool issues. It will stop hurting then a bowel movement will make it hurt again. Honestly think I'm okay as far as hsv is concerned though

That's good. Now just find an alternative to close shaving! And consider the IgG test at 3+ months, if you still want to check. Can be good for baseline purposes.
