Panicking and worried about my symptoms

Today I woke up with a really bad sore throat that feels like my whole throat is on fire and it hurts so much to swallow. I'm worried if my little nephew, before he went to the doctor's on his symptoms of being diagnosed with strep throat, possibly gave me the infection since he did accidentally sneezed on me, but he was fine that time until a few days is when he had the symptoms of a strep throat. I never had a strep throat before and I looked up my chance of surviving without antibiotics which seems pretty risky without it, but I also seen you strep throat will go away without it too which will only last a few days or even more. My anxiety is making me worried now and I should of never googled my symptoms online, but I'm really hoping I will be okay without antibiotics. Does anyone have any good home remedies I can take while trying to recover from it?

Amanda, I'm so sorry about your symptoms.. strep throat is such a huge pain to deal with. I understand your concerns and I dealt with strep throat before once and what I did was avoid drinking cold beverages and cold food. Eat some chicken soup, it would be much easier to eat, also make sure you stay well hydrated as well and stay isolated from others until you recover. Strep throat can last for a few days or a bit more before it goes away, usually antibiotics treat rheumatic fever, not really the strep throat itself, but you can live without it, don't worry and please don't stress yourself out too much about it, you will be fine, just take care of yourself while your body will do the rest on helping you recover. I hope you feel better soon.

Shanny is absolutely right. You don't need to fear for your life because of a strep throat.

During my childhood and teenage years I had several episodes of strep throat, and I can understand the pain you are feeling, but I can also tell you that it will pass soon.

For now, avoid, as Shanny rightly said, cold drinks and dairy products, as these can help proliferate the bacteria that cause the infection.

    You will be fine!
