Osteotomies may be performed on the hip socket side of the joint or on the ball side of the joint (upper thigh bone). Surgeries are on the hip socket side are called “acetabular osteotomies” or “pelvic osteotomies”. The periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is the most common type for young adults.

I will also be getting screws and they will be drilling my hip socket so it is getting more support as at the min my hip joint isn't getting the support it needs and I am in constant pain with it as it is grinding on my hip socket xx

Ahh so its not related to hip replacements or anything. Im not sure if anyone will have much knowledge on that surgery but maybe someone will.

How old are you? Hope it goes well for you though hun. Wish i could have been more helpful but surprisingly its one surgery im nkt familiar with haha xx

Hi Hun I am 21 been dignosed with hip dysplasia since I was 15 going on 16 found out I had it when I was pregnant with my first child. And then after having my second child my pain got really really bad.

If this doesn't work and my pain stays then I will be getting all my muscles and ligaments around the hip all stretched and if that doesn't work then I will be getting a replacement as he wants to hold off on the raplecemnt with me only been 21 and for that this PAO surgery will be best option. Xxx

Ahh im sorry. I was diognosed with hip dysplasia when i was 6 weeks oldand had my first surgery at 1y.o. im now 20 and onto my 13th which was the hipreplacement because i was left with no hip socket or head. It was just a mass of nothing, but i had my muscles stretched during the surgery as they were the size of a childs muscle.

Will this PAO be your first surgery, best to try that route than rushing into the hip replacement as they may not last long enough for us and we may need 2 or more and it becomes difficult. I really hope this works for you hun xx
