You have nothing to be scared of. I was just like you and I can tell you it will definitely get better. I am now eight days post op and in therapy at the hospital. I am expected to leave in the next four days with restrictions for a little while until I can go back to my normal life. Don't worry. We are not alone.

Dont be scared. It is amazing -  the surgeons are truly skilled. This forum should give you all the reassurance you need. It's not necessarily easy but definitely nothing to be scared about. Good luck . X

    Hi Beth

i havent had that but over the course of my life have had three seperate hip ops - they are very good at reassuring you pre op , aneasthetics are very safe these days and no one will want you to be in pain . Please dont be scared. Operations are uncomfortable and obviously no one would have one if it wasnt necessary but theres honestly nothing to be scared of - hopefully someone on here will be able to give you some post op advice - big hugs - youll be fine xx

I had soinal and general because my surgery took 7 hours and spinals only last 4 hours tops. They usually just do a soinal and sedation or no sedation. That bit you can choose

    Hi Bethannie,

welcome back ... I read your profile and saw that you have been dealing with this for over a year - That must have been difficult for you - so kudos for having made the decision and get it done - Of course you are scared - who wouldn't be and we all were or are -

I understand that PAO is somewhat different fromTHR -

I wish I could be more helpful - I had 2 THR surgeries, both with General Anesthesia - I am sure you have a choice -

I hope that there will be someone here on the forum who also had a PAO procedure done and can tell you more -

Is your house ready for your post-op ??? How old are your children?

I am happy to read that your partner is supportive -

come back here anytime when you feel like it okay -

    big warm hug

    renee

Gwhen you have a THR the OTs need to come out and bring equipment such as toilet raisers,chair/bed raisers, perching stool, camode and so on. Although because your not having a THR you may not need that depending on what the rules of recovery x

Bethannie, you need to talk to someone about how to have your home adjusted to your temporary disability post-op your surgery  -  toilet seats are usually too low , so are chairs and perhaps your bed - you cannot (not allowed to) bend to pick up things -

have you had your pre-op appointment yet?

Your babies are so young -

You really need help to take care of them - will your partner stay home with you for the first 2 weeks at least?

      angel blessings -

    HI

I was in hospital 5 nights,  I had the spinal block and sedative so woke up without any sickness or pain.  The pain did kick in the next day and was very bad for 3 days, I could not take the morpine tablets as they made me vomit.  I found the first 6 weeks very hard going, but after that I could really feel the benefit and now 6 months on I am very glad to have had the op done.

It is not plain sailing, but life without the op will get worse, once the op is over and done every day is a step to recovery and a better life.  You will be given lots of advice and aftercare leaflets.  Wear the support stockings and take the blood thinners they give you as well.  There is always help on here as well.
